AHDB Aphid news

The latest issue of AHDB Aphid News has just been released (captures up to 1 May).

  • A small flush of peach–potato aphids have been caught in the south east this week, including a first arrival at Wye, one at Silwood and four at Writtle.
  • A single pea aphid was caught at Silwood and a single willow ̶carrot aphid at Starcross this week.
  • Further reports of cabbage aphids in winter OSR, but none have been caught in the suction-traps, suggesting these may have overwintered successfully on the crop.

Even more carrot flies and cabbage root flies

Today there were 41 carrot flies (3 traps).

In the water traps (3) there were:

  • 131 male and 26 female cabbage root flies
  • 250 bean seed flies
  • 126 pollen beetles
  • 7 flea beetles
  • 8 cabbage stem weevils

There were 53 cabbage root fly eggs (15 cauliflower plants).
