i like cake

some ppl have asked me how i make the cake that i sometimes do. well i use this, only i dont bother with the date and walnut

Date and Walnut Brownies

200g bar plain chocolate
250g (8oz) butter, softened
4 medium eggs
300g (10 0z) caster sugar
125g (4oz) plain flour
100g packet chopped walnuts
150g (5oz) stoned dates, chopped
Icing sugar, for dusting (but we didn't bother)

Set the oven to moderately hot, Gas mark 5 or 190 C.
Melt the plain chocolate either in the microwave or over a pan of hot water. Leave the chocolate to cool slightly buut not reset.
Whisk together the butter and the chocolate.
Lightly beat the eggs and sugar until the mixture starts to go foamy. Fold theegg mixture into the chocolate mixture, then fold in the flour. Add the chopped dates and walnuts.
Spoon the mixture into a lined tray baking tin and level the surface. Bake in the centre of the oven for 30–35 minutes (check after 20), until just set to the touch in the centre.
Remove from the oven and leave to cool in the tin for 5–10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Cut into squares.
Dust with icing sugar.
