Old habits die hard…

Without fail, every time I go to log on to Warwick Blogs I always start entering my old usercode instead of the email address I registered with WGA

The Koan

I haven't posted an image for a while and my recent entries are starting to look a bit dull with just text, so here's a random photo of the Koan:

So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye

I had my graduation today; it was great fun and it was nice to get another chance to see everyone again (well, I say everyone; obviously the poeple on the 4 year course weren't there…). With all the photos the friends' family were taking I got quite good at my "Look At Me I'm Wearing Academic Robes Aren't I Intelligent" pose (hands gripping the sides looking serious; you know the one).
I love how ceremonial it is; it's almost ridiculous; "On behalf of the Senate I present these graduands for degrees" "By the power vested in me…" and so on.
I managed to go all day without falling over, Helen kissed the VC (for reasons I'm sure she'll explain herself) which gave everyone a good laugh, the whole throwing–the–mortar–boards–up–in–the–air–for–the–photo was fun, and I now know that my name appearing on the Pass List wasn't a clerical error…
So, yes, great fun. I recommend you all try it at least once.

Hopefully, thanks to the good people at the WGA, I should be able to keep the old Blog going, but I'm certainly going to miss the University.

So, that's it. I've had a lot of fun at Warwick, met some great people, and been part of the biggest and best student society on campus. But I'm hoping to get a chance to come back and visit friends who haven't left yet.
So don't think of it as "Sayonara"; think of it as "Ja Na"...

Let's say goodbye with a smile, dear,
Just for a while, dear, we must part.
Don't let the parting upset you,
I'll not forget you, sweetheart.

It's finally over, and I didn't fail!

I got my results yesterday, and I got a pass! I'm delighted, because I was expecting to fail, and anything's better than that…

Everyone I've told, the conversation's gone something like this:
Me: I've passed!
Them: Great! So what did you get? 3rd? 2:2?
Me: No. Literally…

Does anyone have the time?

Follow-up to I'm glad that's over… from The randomness of tomorrow, today!

Spending a night working and a day sleeping really plays havoc with your internal clock…

On an unrelated note, being able to use PuTTY on my N70 is great.

I'm glad that's over…

Follow-up to BSc vs MSc from The randomness of tomorrow, today!

Well I've finished my Project Report. It's a load of crap, but it's finished…

Right, time to relax…

Actually, no, exams are coming…

*Sigh*

BSc vs MSc

I've just discovered an advantage to being on the 3 year course rather than the 4 year course:

I won't be in a mad rush to finish my lab report until Week 10…

ITS

IT Services are, as one of my friends would say (and I believe has, on many occasions), crapweasels.
There was a security incident recently so they expired everyone's passwords. Without telling anyone.
They gave people two grace log–ins in which to change the password before it completely stopped. Without telling anyone.
The only time you were told is if you log into a computer on campus, rather than, say, Blogs or any of the other web–based systems. They did this on a weekend.
There are about 15,536 students, and they all need to contact ITS if their password expired after the grace period. ITS have two people on the physical helpdesk, and a handfull of people on the phones. When I got my password sorted after my 9 o'clock, there were about 50 people in the phone queue, and about the same for the helpdesk itself.

There's nothing like good planning…

…and this is noth… well, you know how that goes.

Kudos

Writing about web page http://blogs.warwick.ac.uk/

I think the new Warwick Blogs hompage is really rather nice. Very impressive.

Nitwit

Follow-up to Poster Woes from The randomness of tomorrow, today!

I've also just noticed a huge, massive, really stupid mistake:

On the poster I have an equation that correctly says that the velocity is proportional to the depth of the water; as the water get shallower the wave slows down.
However, the text I wrote to acompany this diagram says the complete opposite; that the velocity is inversely proportional.
This happens just after a section of text giving the correct relation.

Bugger…
