As much as I love Top Gear…

Follow-up to I don't know why it even needs a driver… from The randomness of tomorrow, today!

In the latest Top Gear, Richard Hammond demonstrated a new Lexus' ability to park itself. All present appeared to be wowed and amazed.

Yes it's impressive, but I do feel it necessary to point out that the Toyota Prius, the first production car to feature this ability, has been able to do it since about 2004. I even test drove a Prius myself late last year, 90% to try out the Intelligent Parking Assist and 10% to see it the car itself was any good...

Now I know I'm talking about a lowly hybrid car and Top Gear had a flash Lexus, but the point still stands...

The Toyota Prius can park itself!

I've just found this demonstration on YouTube. The dialogue is in Japanese, but basically you:

1. Put the car in reverse
2. Turn the IPA on
3. Choose between parallel and parking space
4. Use the arrows to position the box (which is where the car will end up)
5. Press go
6. Keep an eye out for pedestrians etc. getting in the way
7. Take your hands off the steering wheel but keep the speed under control with the break
