Maybe it's just spite…

Why is it that when it's late at night and you're trying to be quiet everything is incredibly loud; that floorboard that is normaly almost inaudible suddenly creaks so loudly the all the windows in the house rattle, for example…

Woo! Crash! Yeah!

Well that made a refreshing change, and I don't know about you but I certainly had fun. We must do it again sometime…

Woo hoo! Four–day weekend!

I have no lectures tomorrow or Monday (no lectures anyway, but doubly so since I think it's a bank holiday, being as it is the first Monday in May…).

So I see sleep on the horizon…

Yes, well…

Here's an image I found at
Apparently it's a real advert…

Well I never…

Walking through the Tesco car park on my way into campus I saw a car that had on its mirrors "Objects in the rear–view mirror may be closer than they appear". I didn't realise you actually got that; I always thought it was just a Hollywood thing…

And the moral of the story is…

…alway check your receipt:

I've just been to Tesco (well, about an hour ago) and bought 6 strawberry Fruit Corners (they were on offer; 6 for £2, saving 28p) but when I checked my receipt I noticed that they came through as full price.
I queried this, and when the manager got back from cheching he said that the offer had expired 50 minutes earlier – at midnight – but they would still honour the offer since the labels were still out.
What he actually did was just to refund one of the yogurts, at 38p each, meaning I saved an extra 10p!

Somehow BFGOF just doesn't have the same ring to it as the classic BOGOF

Driving Tarrifs

I've just had a thought; it may not be the first time this thought has been thought of, but I haven't come accross it elsewhere…

I think all motorways, and possibly A–roads, cities, and what–have–you, should be toll roads and that this should replace car tax.

Then, if you only drive occasionally, you only pay tolls occasionaly, so it doesn't cost you much; a sort of "Pay as you go" driving tarrif.
On the other hand, if you drive a lot then you could subscribe to a scheme where, for a monthly fee, to get a certain number of tolls included, and then pay for any extra. There could be several tarrifs, with varying monthly fees and included tolls and this monthly contract scheme would also have the convenience of not needing any cash at the time.

Personally I think this is a good idea, but I'm sure I've come accross something like it somewhere before…

The Burden of Introvertness

Follow-up to Ho hum from The randomness of tomorrow, today!

One of my friends seems to be going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment. I want to help, but don't know how; and if I did I still probably wouldn't because I wouldn't feel comfortable (not quite the right word, but I can't think of a better one).
That's one reason why this blog and contain very little that's actually about me (in fact, I'm pretty sure my website doesn't contain anything about me, except the mirror of this blog which doesn't count…); I'm not very good at talking about myself and I lack the self confidence to really do anything to help friends other than to listen. Not that I'm saying listening to people's problems doesn't help, because it does (it's good to get things off your chest), it's just that sometimes something more pro–active is needed and that's what I can't do; a hug, talking about it over lunch, I just don't feel close enough to my friends…
Still, at least other people do; so they can help my friends in need…
