The glass is half full, or is it?

I've always thought that the answer to this question depended very much on context; that if the glass is being emptied, the glass is half empty, and if the glass is being filled, the glass is half full.

So if, to get the Half Glass, you fill it from the tap, then the glass is half full. On the other hand, if you drink the contents to leave half, then the glass is half empty.

If you don't know whether the glass was being filled or emptied, the easiest thing to do is to drink or pour out the contents and declare it completely empty…
