President Bush, everybody…

I just heard Bush say this on the BBC News:

We will take the necessary steps to protect the american people

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it us who were being threatened?
There was another one just like that a few sentences before, but I can't remember what it was…

  1. US and British planes to the US were being threatened.
Countries protect their citizens so there is nothing wrong with saying "we will protect the American people".

  2. Fair enough, I have just heard "transatlantic flights" on a later report; all my information until then had come second hand as I don't usually watch the news – I only keep an eye on it when something "exciting" has happened.

  4. Likely there would be many yanks on said planes. And a blogger on these very pages just went to America land on one of those planes :S
I did however, find this annoying:
bq. U.S. President George W. Bush said the plan was a stark reminder his country was at "war with Islamic fascists".
    Goodo… What about us?
bq. "The plan was to have multiple suicide bombings on aircraft, essentially at the same time," said U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, adding al Qaeda might have been involved but that it was too early to draw conclusions.

This was on Yahoo UK news.
Anything from British Intelligence? Mr Blair?
Nope… John Reid said something though, just for the record

  8. Hold on Richard. Are you saying we shouldn't follow our President?
God, you are so anti–semitic. Disgraceful.
