As much as I love Top Gear…

Follow-up to I don't know why it even needs a driver… from The randomness of tomorrow, today!

In the latest Top Gear, Richard Hammond demonstrated a new Lexus' ability to park itself. All present appeared to be wowed and amazed.

Yes it's impressive, but I do feel it necessary to point out that the Toyota Prius, the first production car to feature this ability, has been able to do it since about 2004. I even test drove a Prius myself late last year, 90% to try out the Intelligent Parking Assist and 10% to see it the car itself was any good...

Now I know I'm talking about a lowly hybrid car and Top Gear had a flash Lexus, but the point still stands...

  1. Yeah I was wondering why they were so amazed… It didn’t even park itself. I’m sure I saw it on a ‘rival’ program a couple of years ago.
I come to the only reasonable conclusion: They were happily taking the piss :)

Probably. The trouble is, of course, that I managed to do it with relative ease. Therefore we can only assume that the car is fantastic, and it is in fact they that are the fools in this instance…

I seen that the car crashed. No matter what the car should not crash. All the motor journos rate the s-class over the LS anyway? And she’s ugly to boot…
