Scotland isn't Scottish
I came across an interesting morsel the other day, and thought I'd share it with you…
The kilt was invented in Ireland. So was Scotland, which is named after the Scoti who were Irish. Scottish is a dialect of Irish. The bagpipes were invented in Asia. Porridge was invented in Ancient China, as was whisky, which was also independently discovered by the Italians. Haggis was invented in Ancient Rome. Hogmanay is a French invention and a French word, and clan tartans were invented by the English.
I found it somewhat amusing that all the typical Scottish stereotypes aren't strictly Scottish…
