Nintendo Sued for Patent Infringement

Writing about web page http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/750/750001p1.html?RSSwhen2006-12-08_112500&RSSid=750001

What puzzles me is why they’ve waited until now to do this? The concept of the Wii and Wiimote have been all over the Internet for ages. If they were really that concerned about financial losses, they’d have nipped it in the bud a long time ago. Also, how is a device only compatible with a specific games console impacting the sales of an existing device for computers?

Oh yes, before I forget

I pointed out to Gamestation that they hadn’t given me anything for Sonic & Knuckles, and they were happy to rectify the problem. Since it was technically unboxed (I had the sleeve, but had misplaced the tray, strangely…) it was only 50p, but the money wasn’t the issue – it was the principle of the thing…

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Follow-up to OK, so I lied; I couldn't help myself… from The randomness of tomorrow, today!

Just spent an hour or two playing this. It’s a fantastic game; definately a worthy contender for the title of Best Zelda Ever.

Being able to run while swinging the sword is fun…

I haven’t got that far (it’s a huge game – I’ve just passed collecting the sword and shield, for the benefit of people who’ll know where that fits in) and I’ve only died once (I got stuck in water – where you can’t attack – and couldn’t get back on land because the creatures kept hitting me…).

I’ve heard a lot of people complain about the graphics etc. because it’s essentially a GameCube port. Personally I’d say, “Yeah, and? Have you seen them? GameCube quality or not, they’re still damn good.” Plus, if they can do something like this with porting it to the Wii, just imagine what the Wii’s own Zelda will be like!

Being able to name your horse is a nice touch, although personally I don’t feel there’s any name your horse should have other than “Epona”...

So, just Red Steel and Raving Rabbids left to try…

OK, so I lied; I couldn't help myself…

Follow-up to I gots Mii a Wii! from The randomness of tomorrow, today!

Well, I was planning on just making sure everything was working and having a quick look at the settings, but I couldn’t help myself…

I stayed up ‘til 3am creating a Mii and playing on Wii Sports.

The point-and-click works very well; it behaves just as you expect, so it’s very easy to use. The motion sensing works brilliantly, too; and I know you don’t need the full “real” motion for Wii Sports, but it’s just more fun.

Wii Sports is great – I’d say Tennis is the best, then Bowling; my timing sucks on Baseball and I haven’t quite got the knack of the correct “strength” for Golf. Boxing is quite fun, and a good workout if you really get into it, but it didn’t pick up on every punch – still quite good, though.

The Mii Channel is a surprisingly good way to pass the time; I managed to get quite a good caricature of Mii with it, too.

I was very surprised by just how tiny it all was; the box that it all comes in is a similar size to the Xbox 360. I was also worried that the Wiimote was going to be a little large to access every button easily, but it really isn’t; it’s pretty much the perfect size, and all the main buttons are easily withing reach.

I’ve also just had a go on the Shopping Channel; a little slow, but not infuriatingly so. I bought Donkey Kong Country (a SNES game I had but haven’t got on another console) and tried it out; It works very well with no problems that I encountered.

Anyway, lunch time; I’ll let you all know what I think of Twilight Princess, Red Steel, and Raving Rabbids later…

I gots Mii a Wii!

Follow-up to I need a Wii from The randomness of tomorrow, today!

Three cheers for Launch Day Midnight Opening Hours!

I’m just on unpacking it at the moment; it’s tiny, and my God is it pretty.

I’m just going to have a quick look now and then get an early-ish night to have a good go at it tomorrow. I’ll add my opinions to the (no doubt by then) many others this evening…

To honour this momentous occasion, here’s a rerun:
