His boss was the only person left in the office working on her computer and he was praying that she wont ask any question. “Beep-beep-beep!” He heard this and smiled, that was the signal he was waiting for “At last she closed the lid of her gigolo laptop and walked toward the bloody door” told himself.
“Bye Sam, don’t work so hard honey, see you tomorrow” said his boss while she was going out. He waved and smiled and his sigh synchronized with the door’s closing noise. Now he could start his revolutionary code. He checked all of the connections, USBX ok, VSD ok, VGGX ok, yes it seems everything is just waiting for the last bit of code and a click on the run button.
But he couldn’t make his last decision! “What is the best choice?” asked himself “Shall I go to 2010 just to see who is the next USA president? “ And he thought, “it doesn’t really matter, dummy is dummy”. “Shall I go to 2020 to see who is going to be my girlfriend then?” And he thought ”Err .., nope , not a good idea ,it could really disappoint me if I find my present girlfriend there ,while I am going to be a very famous and rich inventor soon” . “Shall I go to 2030 to see can Microsoft eventually buy Sun and change the windows name to WinSunGate ?” And because he was a kind of ignorant to anything else than computer world like other developers and programmers, a pleasing smile ran on his lips and started to finish the last bit of his code.
Shortly afterward he took a deep breath and moved the mouse pointer toward the run command but just realised he is breaking his professional rules! “Hang on hang on stop” told himself, “I am breaking the TDD (Test-Driven Development) rule, I need to test my code before using it, how do I know I am going to the right time? Lets have a test” and remembered his boss’ word: “The best test is the simplest test honey“, so he decided to go backward ,something that shows the proof, something that he knows about it , so he just decided to go to 20 minutes ago , he wrote the test code and pressed the run command.
“Bye Sam, don’t work so hard honey, see you tomorrow” said his boss while she was going out. He waved and smiled and his sigh synchronized with the door’s closing noise. I have worn many different type of helmets about 6 years riding on motorcycles and 4 years on bicycles , but I never had a serious accident . But one helmet was so different and saved my life. My country was at war (against Sadam’s troops) and I was a 15-year-old boy, volunteer to be a solder to defend my people, they trained us for 2 weeks! And sent us to the first front and we were supposed to attack the enemy at midnight to push them back to their borderline!
We were about 900 people started about 9:00 pm and about 1:00 am I realised I had lost my way and there was only myself in the middle of the enemy and they think I am one of them! And one of their commanders was speaking Arabic to me: do this, does that (I guess); it took just 1 second to decide what to do? Shall I shoot them? Shall I surrender? Shall I run away? And I chose the last one, ran away toward our troops.
While I was expecting to got shot from behind! But nobody did shoot me. Because the day before I couldn’t find a helmet, I found an Iraqi one (so different shape) and had it on my head and maybe they thought I am a brave one of them, attacking the other side, not running away!
I got injured later on that night, maybe I was lucky not to have the opportunity to kill anyone, I lost many friends but we pushed them back.
Human being is so foolish sometimes not to believe that life is just a game , but even a game makes memory , a memory of a boy , a night and a wrong helmet .
