In the Maths Block,
Guy 1: What did you get for GCSEs?
Guy 2: 6A*s, 3As and a C
Guy 1 (sounded genuinely shocked): You got a C?!

I'll let you guess which Guy I was.

I got 3% once in a maths exam but it wasn’t the lowest mark in the class, a friend of mine got 1%. There was a rumour going around afterwards that she got the 1% for writing her name at the top of the exam paper so I never really knew if I was three times better at maths than her or only twice as good.

Another thing has sprung to mind when thinking about this subject. Recently, I took an NVQ, which was actually quite dire but I won’t go into at the moment. When I was about half way through it the supervisor said to me one day “You have got less than five GCSE’s, haven’t you, because that’s one of the requirements of this course.” The awful thing was that I said “Yes” (it wasn’t true but I had no intention of giving up at that stage) and she said “Well, I need proof of that, will you bring your certificates in next week please.” So the following week I brought four of my GCSE certificates in. I haven’t told many people about it but I guess the worst that can happen is that they strip me of my NVQ.
