RefWorks Cancellation – ALL USERS PLEASE READ

Unfortunately, following a period of consultation, IT Services have decided not to renew the RefWorks software licence. You will not be able to access RefWorks, or any of the references stored in it, after 31 October 2007. The EndNote software – an alternative to RefWorks – will continue to be available.

If you wish to keep the references stored in your RefWorks account, you will need to save them to a file. References created in RefWorks can also be transferred into EndNote. For more information on either of these, please contact the IT Services Helpdesk on 024 7657 3737, ext. 73737 or email: helpdesk@warwick.ac.uk.

Any comments or feedback should be sent to Patrick Ryan.

What a ridiculous decision. I can’t remember off-hand how many registered RefWorks users Warwick had when I worked there, but it was way beyond our hopes. There were people at every RefWorks training session I ran who got really enthused about the product, eager to put it to use.

Students will now have to go without this easy-to-use software and either not use bibliographic software at all or fork out however much it costs to purchase a personal copy of (the much-harder-to-use) EndNote. I also demonstrated RefWorks to plenty of staff members, who preferred it over EndNote because of its ease of use.

I hope the RefWorks users (most of whom, particularly amongst student users, are probably on holiday and never even knew this consultation was taking place) at Warwick kick up enough of a fuss to get this decision overturned.
