Euro 2008: the aftermath

OK, now we know that Spain is the winner. Well done Spain.

Now, let's have a Euro 2008 version of Eurovision Song Contest. Before we say what country gets what points, we must first as a gesture of goodwill thank our hosts Miss Austria and Mr Swiss for hosting a wonderful show.

Now we have the score for each team. The best gets 16 points and the worst gets 1 point.

  • 1 point goes to Greece
  • 2 points go to France
  • 3 points go to Poland
  • 4 points go to Switzerland
  • 5 points go to Sweden
  • 6 points go to Romania
  • 7 points go to Czech Republic
  • 8 points go to Austria
  • 9 points go to Portugal
  • 10 points go to Croatia
  • 11 points go to Holland
  • 12 points go to Italy
  • 13 points go to Russia
  • 14 points go to Turkey
  • 15 points go to Germany
  • 16 points go to Spain!

What do you think?

Remember, we have only got 2 years to go until World Cup 2010 to come around.

To finish this blog, here is something to remind you of Euro 2008:

Bye bye!

Euro 2008 Day 21

Spain is through to the final. Please watch the final on Sunday.

As we almost come to the end of this somewhat crazy Euro 2008 journey, let's start giving awards to those people who make this tournament interesting and crazy.

The one with the craziest hairstyle

Dutch coach Marco Van Basten- he shaved his hair off right before the start of the tournament (weird) probably hoping that his team would be inspired to win Euro 2008 just like he did in '88 (even more weird). For some more or less obvious reasons, the Dutch lost.

The one who we will miss for years to come

Jens Lehmann- aggressive, scary, grumpy, yellow/red card, oh, and German. He is leaving Arsenal and off to a German club called Stuttgart. Let's all hope him well.

The one who we will be joking about for ages

Petr Cech. Why? The blunders he made against Turkey.

The one who is musical

Slaven Bilic- he is a guitarist and the Croatian fans were singing songs written by him.

The one who behaved badly

Joachaim Löw- he is nothing like Klinsmann. He was sent off during Austria-Germany and he SMOKED during the next match. Bad guy.

The team who is disappointing

Holland- they did very well in the group stage but they did rubbish against Russian. Without all these overworks from their goalkeeper/skipper, they would have been humiliated.

The team who is surprising

Russia- they got into the semifinal and one of the reasons is that they have Guus 'Mr Fix-it' Hiddink as their coach.

Euro 2008 Day 20

Fantastic news. Germany is into the FINAL. The last time Germany won the Euro Championship was in Euro 1996 in England when JÜRGEN KLINSMANN skippered the German into glory. Today, we have German manager Löw , who was KLINSMANN's assistant during World Cup 2006 who will lead Germany into glory. Com'on, you Germans.

Today, Russia is playing against Spain. I just hope the best team wins.

Euro 2008 Day 19

Wah! Wah! I feel like crying. Holland, Croatia and Italia are ALL out. I really feel like crying. I feel like crying like a baby.

Today, we have Germany vs Turkey for the 1/2 final and so far the score is 1-1.

Euro 2008 Day 14

GERMANY IS INTO THE 1/2 FINAL! How lovely is that!

Today, we have Croatia vs Turkey. I bet Croatia will win tonight because I think the Croatian coach and his players are great.

I am away on Days 15, 16, 17 and 18 and here are my predictions for the other two 1/4 finals.

Holland vs Russia

Holland should win, but you never know what Hiddink's Russia can do as Hiddink is nicknamed 'Mr Fix-it'.

España vs Italia

I hope España will win but to be realistic, Italia will win.

Keep an eye on the matches and see whether my predictions are right.

See you and smile!

Euro 2008 Day 13

RUSSIA IS IN! It seems that Guus Hinddink is really a 'Mr Fix-it'. He has taken all the national teams he has managed past the group stage. Now, Russia is gonna play Holland which is gonna be very interesting. First, the managers of BOTH teams are DUTCH. Secondly, Hiddink actually knows some of the older players from the Dutch national team.

Today, we have Portugal vs Germany. So far, the Germans are actually winning. I guess this is the real consequence of the Klinsmann effect. Yippee!

Euro 2008 Day 12

Today, we have Russia vs Sweden and Greece vs Spain.

Russia vs Sweden

This is THE match that will tell us whether Russia or Sweden will be playing against Holland on Saturday.

Greece vs Spain

This is a pointless game, one way or another. On one hand, Spain has already got the magic ticket that will lead them into 1/4 final. On the other hand, Greece is already out.

Latest Score as I know it

Russia 1 Sweden 0

Greece 0 Spain 0

Euro 2008 Day 11

Germany is through to the 1/4 final but I still think the current German coach is not as great and as exciting as Jürgen Kilinsmann!

Today, we have France vs Italia and Holland vs Romania.

France vs Italia

This looks exciting. This is the first time that France meets Italia in a proper competition since the World Cup 2006 final when Zinedine Zidane HEADBUTTED Marco Matterazi. Let me give you a tip today: do NOT headbutt anybody, otherwise you will get told off and get into BIG trouble. Remember this tip. It will save your life.

Holland vs Romania

This is a BIG chance for Romania to get into the 1/4 final. There is nothing really interesting about Holland tonight as they've already got the magic ticket to the 1/4 final. They will be playing on Saturday and let's wish the Dutch well.........

Euro 2008 Day 10

Yesterday, Czech Republic was the latest team to get booted out of Euro 2008. It seems that what happened to Petr Cech yesterday is the exact reflection of what happened to him this season (2007-2008) at Chelsea. Cech was so close to getting the Champion League, the Premier League and Carling Cup, yet, he only ended up as runner up.

La Suisse was great yesterday. At least they got 3 points.

Today, we have Austria vs Germany and Poland vs Croatia.

Austria vs Germany

This is set to look interesting as it will tell you whether Germany or Austria will reach the 1/4 final. Austria must beat Germany to get into the 1/4 final while Germany must not lose to Austria to reach the 1/4 final. Please keep an eye on the score.

Poland vs Croatia

Croatia has already got the magic ticket to the 1/4 final while Poland must beat Croatia and get a bit of luck from the other group match in order to get into the 1/4 final. Will Croatia let Poland win?? We shall see.

Euro 2008 Day 9

So sad, so sad. Euro 2004 champions Greece has been knocked out of Euro 2008. Maybe there is something wrong with the way they played, or maybe they should change their manager so that they can revive their enthusiasm. Anyway, Greece is out.

Today, we have Turkey vs Czech Republic and La Suisse vs Portugal.

Turkey vs Czech Republic

This is an important match as it will decide who will get into the 1/4 final along with Portugal from Group A. If the normal time ends with a draw, there will be a penalty shoot out. So far so good for the Czechs. The current score is 0-1 to Czech Republic.

La Suisse vs Portugal

Portugal has already got its magic ticket to the 1/4 final while host La Suisse is trying to get at least 1 point out of all the group games so that they don't look stupid. The current score is 0-0.

Good luck to the Czechs.
