Tawny Owl in Crakley Common woods

Writing about web page http://www.barnowl.co.uk/interact/owlsounds/index.asp

5am, and I can't sleep. There are three reasons for this:

  1. hyperactive brain thinking about work, philosophy, etc;
  2. hyperactive appetite demanding bacon, egg, sausages etc;
  3. noisy neighbour in the woodland behind our house.

And the culprit is…

...Mr Strix Aluco, also know as The Tawny Owl. Every night we hear it calling. Either the classic owl sound that you can hear in this file from the (very good) website referenced above…

Classic Tawny Sound

...or this more disturbing 'kewik' that is so loud we can hear it at the other side of the house…

Tawny Kewik Sound

Emma loves owls, and recently had some in her classroom, including an African Eagle Owl.
