What have I done to deserve this??

Writing about web page http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=2889

And the weather for my holiday next week is as follows:

Sunday: Rain
Monday: Rain
Tuesday: Rain
Wednesday: Rain

Thanks. That’s just SO wonderful. Y’know, I don’t ask for much.

Looks like we’ll have to play a lot of Scrabble and listen to the rain hammering down on the caravan roof! Wandering across the site to go to the loo is becoming less and less appealing….!!

Ready and waiting

Writing about web page http://www.bris.ac.uk/news/2005/743

Luckily my new car is blue…but it hasn’t stopped the little tweety things aiming at it from the aerial on my roof. Honestly, I’d only got it home from the garage for 10 minutes and they’d laid a juicy one on the shiny clean bonnet.

Especially with it being a dark coloured car I’m worried the poo will damage the paintwork.

I’m convinced that they wink at me whilst aiming over the edge of the aerial.

Maybe I should just set Apple on them!!

Hello…and goodbye

I bought a new car on Saturday. I’m still in shock about it but it’s also quite exciting. I’ve got to wait a few weeks to collect it so in the meantime I’m trying to sell my current car privately (as the garage trade in offer was a bit poo to say the least).

I’ll be sad to see it go….it was my first car and it’s been really good to me. I’ve taken lots of photos of it and will definitely have a tear in my eye as I wave it off on its way. I really hope I can sell it privately to someone who will appreciate it like I have…rather than just giving it to the garage to sort out.

Had one viewing so far and it seemed to go well. He wants his girlfriend to see it too (cos its for her) so hopefully I’ll hear back from him about it.

Fingers crossed!

Kevin strikes back

Lionel Shriver was really good last night. She read some extracts from her new book ‘The post-birthday world’ (which sounds good by the way) and also answered questions from the audience in a Question-time stylee. The discussion naturally got on to Kevin and I’m pleased that she resisted the ‘pressure’ to give her opinion on whether Kevin was naturally evil, or whether Eva ‘caused’ it by bad parenting. It’s one of those things that’s best left as a thought point. Lionel was a very good speaker and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I got my book signed too!

On other matters, I would really appreciate it if it would stop raining soon. Thanks.

We need to talk about kevin…

Writing about web page http://www.warwickartscentre.co.uk/events/id/3197

Off to see Lionel Shriver at the Arts Centre tonight.
We read “We need to talk about Kevin” in our reading groups a few months ago and we all had so much to say about it!! A really good book for anyone who hasn’t read it….raises lots of issues and is generally very thought provoking.

Looking forward to hearing about her new book. I think we’re going to schedule it in for one of our summer reads!

A bleak day in the land of Rachel

Having got the expensive noise fixed on my car (and paid £200+ pounds for the priveledge), it has now developed another problem. Estimated cost to fix it: £500 plus labour. Joy!

I’m thinking that a new car might be in order sooner than a new kitchen.

Today is a day where I hate life and it clearly hates me :(

Expensive noises

Urgh. My car is making a noise. And not a good noise. It started yesterday and now it’s quite bad and I’m a tad concerned! Got it booked into the garage tomorrow. Fingers crossed it’s not too expensive. Erk.

When I spoke to the garage on the phone, they wanted me to describe the noise. What? Do you want me to impersonate it over the phone?? I couldn’t have felt more inept and girly. Hopefully they won’t detect my lack of car knowledge and rip me off!!

Urgh. The kitchen fund may take a sudden dent :(

Being lardy

I need to start doing some exercise.
It’s shameful.
I’ve been to popmobility twice since Christmas and that is it (apart from cleaning, gardening and decorating which don’t really count as formal exercise do they?)
My exercise bike is being used as a clothes horse.
Why can’t I motivate myself?? I just don’t enjoy exercise. The ‘happy endorphins’ thing that’s supposed to kick in and make you feel great during/after exercise just doesn’t seem to happen for me.
I think I am destined for a life of slobbery and sloth.

Planning my next trip

Writing about web page http://www.canadianaffair.com/

Found out about this website today that does really good deals to Toronto. I’ve always wanted to go there. Maybe next year I’ll move forward and get it sorted.

I’m planning to go to Hong Kong in November/December time to see my friend Emma whilst she’s on her solicitor placement over there, so suddenly I’m all sorted for overseas trips!

This is great for someone who is terrified of flying…. ho hum!

Lazy decorators

Can I just say….

If you are tempted to do one of the following:

  • paint over existing wallpaper
  • paint over existing borders
  • put a new border over an existing one
  • stick a border down with a superglue-like substance

Please don’t.
Those of us who move into the house after you are left with the “joy” of sorting out the above and it is a painstaking, traumatic way to spend an Easter weekend.
