Submitting the beast

So Blog it has been awhile, and what a busy time it has been.

New placement, new schools and all is going well. I have moved on from Secondary and am now at a Further Education college and am loving every second. The vibe is very different as is the teaching style and process of learning. Concentration lies on discussion and how to get the students to reflect on what they have done. What I have noticed as the main difference is that in School the teacher teaches the pupils, in College everyone works together on a journey of learning. It is more of a shared experience. At first I was worried this would be a culture shock for me making the transition from secondary to FE but alas I seem to have found my feet quickly. what is not to love? As an actor/director/writer this is dream come true for me. It is like walking into fame, where all day, every day is drama related. I feel like I am cheating the PGCE system. However the work load is still there, planning for three hour lessons is tougher and my knowledge is put to the test. But I throw the gauntlet down and accept the challenge. Bring it on!

On another note the dreaded Masters has been submitted. Whether it is any good is another matter entirely. Will I have mastered the masters? Only time will tell, praying I don't have to write it again.

I am also trying to read a play a week to increase my drama knowledge and learn more about practitioners. I have just this second finished reading The Dumb Waiter by Pinter. Interesting play, quite simple yet effective. I need to ponder it further to really find meaning. The actor in me would be drawn to the role of Gus and for some odd reason I see him as Scottish.

The other play I read recently was Blasted by Sarah Kane. Oh dear. Wasn't the pleasantest of reads. Shock for shocks sake does not wash with me. It felt like she was being controversial for no reason what so ever. Don't think i'll be using this one in a school anytime soon.

Likes of the moment: The West Wing, The Wooster Group and FE Colleges
Dislikes of the moment: Masters, Masters, Masters.
