Preparing your Written Essay, Thurs 4 Nov 3pm ACCR

In this session I will show some examples of how (and how not) to present your written Essays. This session does not substitute for the written guidance at the Essay Syllabus page : please do read that.

If the talk preparation sessions lead me to expect limited attendance, I will move this session from ACCR to a smaller room.

Clarification on assessment: essays will be marked by the same assessors as talks.

Using Powerpoint – Thurs 28 Oct 2pm L4

This session is aimed firstly at those who have not used Powerpoint (or similar) before. Experts might pick up a few tips, and might also be able to contribute some. I will proceed 'hands on' and without much of a script; the more questions and prompting I get the better!

I strongly recommend that Powerpoint novices proceed to try it out themselves directly afterwards. I will check the Physics mail-room machines (and PS101 adjacent) to see if anyone needs help.

You are not required to use Powerpoint for your Essay talk. You will be allowed to, although please note that network connections are not assured for the talks.

Guidance session on talk preparation Thurs 21 Oct 2pm L4

There will be a general guidance session on preparing a talk, this Thursday (21 Oct) 2pm in L4.

This session will be led by Dr Lynne Robson from the Warwick Writing Programme. I strongly encourage you to attend.

Data projectors will be available (but not compulsory!) for your talks Thurs week 7, and I will organise a separate session on use of PowerPoint for those that want this. You will be expected to use some visual aids, but this can be OHP rather than data projector.

Physics Second Year Essay

I get a lot of email queries about the Physics Essay. It would be more fair and helpful for everyone to see these queries and answers so please try posting here instead. However please first check all the guidance on the Syllabus page . Many queries are already answered there.

If you do not see a comments listing below then please click on the title link above.

This is an experiment. I have yet to see how well the blog works as a glorified FAQ. It will certainly be discontinued if it attracts inappropriate postings – so think before you post: is your comment really for everyone to see?
