  2. Thanks Bugadoo. I think I was glad to answer a question correctly, and this just came out in the form of hand movements. Looking back at it several times, it is starting to make me cringe, but then University Challenge needs a bit more livening up. Hopefully there will be more of the same next time!

  3. Thanks for the feedback, Andrew. This will boost my ego somewhat, although two of my answers were inspired by missignals by Emmanuel Ingelsby, who I think got more points than any of us individually (still need to count).

By the way I was at the selection process of the 2002/2003 team at the Students’ Union, which you beat everyone very convincingly, answering 67/80 questions right. You will be glad to hear that the selection process was only 20 questions this year – hence this this how I slipped through the net! I was in the same year and course as John Skinner (2nd year Maths), although after graduation I am in the middle of a PhD at the MOAC Centre at the old Senate House.

Andrew, we did rather well, but without you what could we do?

  5. Thanks for the support giurfa. It did seem a great thing to do at the time (my thoughts at the time were ‘Yes! I managed to get an answer right’ ) and watching myself on TV embarassing myself made me cringe a few times, but the show needed a bit of misplaced enthusiasm. And my wave at the end, I wasn’t going to wave as if we’ve been beaten! I hope you will watch the next round in Februrary…

I can’t remember the last time I jumped off my sofa to cheer—but your team’s performance in University Challenge when you beat that incredibly smug team in the round before last made me shout out loud!! Fantastic!! I can’t remember the team, but they really thought they were going to win so easily, but you lot won it back. Well done!! Hope you make it to the final.

  11. Hi there Andrew.

Of all the teams we’ve faced, the first round team were probably the most disappointed team for not beating us. They had taken part in an intercollegiate tornament prior to their appearance, whilst we had hardly any quiz practices with the team together.

So winning that match was so sweet as it was completely unexpected – I was glad just to get onto TV.
