Exercise… it's just bad…

Well, since I'm incapable of finding a job (bad restaurants and petrol station wont even call me back for an interview), and I can only spend a certain amount of my time playing music, I decided to get fit this summer… Colchester leisure centre is very serious about their gym though, you have to do a 5 session starter course to join, which involves 2 personal trainer sessions, which are hardcore…

Yesterday was my second personal trainer session and made the horrific mistake of saying I didn't really know what I wanted to work on. This apparently angered the beast trainer woman, who decided I should be punished with circuit training. Well I think I was doing pretty well, got through the first two circuits fairly comfortably (well, without crying or wanting to kill anything larger than a moth) but I knew I was in trouble at the start of the third circuit, and no matter how many times the evil woman said "not too long to go now" I knew either me or the cross trainer was going down, and of course, it was me. With just a minute left before I could try and scam a few seconds of rest between exercises, I suddenly realised my stomach was not happy that I was doing all this work, and was going to express its disappointment by sending my lunch up. Cue me having to jump off the sadistic cross trainer, walk briskly to the fire door holding back the wretches and just about getting outside before throwing up, interestingly mainly through my nose…

Apparently that was a good place to end the session, and the woman was kind enough to say she may have been pushing me a bit hard, but it's times like this that remind me why I'm not much of a gym person. Can exercise really be all that beneficial if it can cause vomiting, muscle strains, damaged ligaments, etc? Seems like at best it's only on a par with drinking heavily and eating kebabs…

Excitement growing!

Having had a bit of a chat with my mate Dan who's just finished his degree (the sly bastard… how can I still have two years left??) we realised that Reading is only a month and a bit away!!

And all of a sudden the fact that I can't get a job, the shear boredom of living in Colchester where I know nobody, and the horrific state of my bank balance (sort of linked to the job thing) don't seem to matter anymore! In one month and 6 days I'll be in a field drinking my own body weight in special brew and fighting the effects of sleep depravation for another weekend (strangely, wednesday till monday still counts as a weekend) and I can't wait!

Sure the line up is pants this year… the top four bands on the friday are just shite, and the bastard Arctic Monkeys got to be co headliners with the awesome Muse, don't know what's going on there… but it is ALL about the camp site baby, and big JV.

And the line up isn't a complete wash out… after years of chanting Slayer for no good reason, they're going to be there! And there's Less Than Jake, Bullet for my Valentine, Flogging Molly, Dashboard Confessional, Fall Out Boy, Coheed and Cambria, GLC, and the epic legends of the weekend Pearl Jam, who I know nothing about other than I have to see them for the same reason I had to see Iron Maiden… so that I could tell my grandkids I did!

Ah yes, my countdown to Reading has begun…

On the flipside…

There seems to be a lot of people laughing at a certain footballer because he cried when his country was knocked out of the biggest competition in world football. Not so much has been made of these…

John Terry

Rio Ferdinand

Owen Hargreaves

I wonder why…?

Scraped it!

Finally, proof that "The Fear" is the single greatest revision aid known to man!

I scraped a first! 71% baby, it's the only way to be! Maybe in my 3rd and 4th years I'll try to work throughout the year, and gain a better understanding of things, but then hopefully the stuff we're learning will be of some vague interest rather than a quick skim over numerous random topics.

Anyway, don't let anyone ever tell you that learning entire topics the day before the exam is irresponsible or impossible. Just explain that nothing motivates people to learn like "The Fear"!

Why being a second year is crap

My results don't come out till a week on Friday, and even then I have to wait for my tutor to come back from some trip to send them to me…

You're all so lucky!

(except the other 2nd years, obv…)

Organisation is for losers and charlatans

Even if I find out that I've got a super first for my second year at the end of next week, there is no way I will be able to call myself an intelligent person.

Today I realised a number of things…

1. My suit, which I need for the gala concert is at home.
2. My tent, which I need for tour, is at home.
3. My parents have just gone on holiday, so ironically they're one thing that isn't at home.
4. I have absolutely no free time for the rest of this week.

Therefore, I have just been on the train for 2 hours, spent just over £20 on the train and taxi, and I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to get to the station in the morning so that I can get back in time for the WSAF concert.

In future I may try to think about things more than 24 hours in advance, although that's unlikely to actually happen. It's not like this is the first time I've done something like this…

Anyway, if anyone sees my looking like I'm about to collapse tomorrow, you can probably guess why…

I have no more exams! Now, should I burn all the notes or put them in folders? Fire or filing? Will I regret it if I destroy everything??

Cinematic Masochism

Oh the dilemmas… Ok, as anyone that's seen it will know, Scaregrow Gone Wild is the worst film ever. Worse than Terror Toons, worse than Boy Eats Girl, and much much worse than Dead Meat and Braineater.

However, today I found out that it was the third part of a trilogy of 'Scarecrow' movies! There's Scarecrow (the first one) and Scarecrow Slayer (the second one) and they both seem to have basically the same story line, albeit without the acting talents of Ken Shamrock.

So now I'm vaguely tempted to rent the first two, just to complete the experience. I almost feel like I'm cheating to just watch the last film, and not put myself through the agonizing torture of the full trilogy. Sort of like a guy who watches a bunch of people walking over hot coals and then sticks a foot in at the end just to say he was part of it.

How can I live with myself? How can I move on to Zombie Honeymoon, The Dead Next Door, or Dead and Breakfast if I'm just going to wuss out when the going gets tough?? I'd be rejected by indie–horror b movie connoseuirs the world over because of my weakness and lack of commitment to the cause…

Oh the dilemmas…

"I've got to get a girlfriend, just for the summer, until this wears off. She'll be a summery girl. She'll have hair. She'll have summery friends who know how to be outside. She'll play tennis and wear dresses and have bare feet, and in the autumn, I'll ditch her, because she's my summer girl!"

I may be slowly turning into Bernard Black…

Revision skills

Follow-up to At a loss… from Blogeriffic

Well look what happened… Although, for anyone looking for a successful revision technique, learning entire modules the day before exams has proved remarkably successful. My old theory of needing the "fear" to do anything remotely productive has once again been proved right by the fact that I haven't yet had a complete nightmare!
