CALL FOR PAPERS – Exchanges: the Warwick Early Career Research Journal

Exchanges: the Warwick Early Career Research Journal invites articles that articulate new research in all disciplines, and particularly scholarship by early career researchers in the field.

This journal is a peer-reviewed online Open Access (no fee) journal that provides a vital public platform for the sharing of analytical and theoretical work of the highest standard by researchers that is, for example:

 Seeking a wider audience out of their immediate field

 Interdisciplinary, or reaches across several disciplines and journal audiences

 Where the researcher seeks new credibility as a lead or single author; or is seeking co-authorship out of their normal field of expertise

Submissions are welcome from those working in all fields and from both within the University of Warwick and other universities worldwide. We particularly welcome submissions from emerging scholars, including post-doctoral and doctoral (final stage) researchers.

Submissions may be in the form of:

a) articles of 4,000-5,000 words in length

b) reviews of about 1,000 words in length

Articles: These may be detailing the findings from a piece of research, a methodological discussion, or a broader philosophical discussion. The scholarly writing will be of a high standard and will reveal a theoretical lens with reference to appropriate literature. Authors should note the cross-disciplinary reach of this journal and adapt their writing accordingly. Authors will retain the right to use their article in future publications/work.

Reviews: These may evaluate a recent book or conference that would be of interest to a broad audience.

Further guidance on submissions is available on the Journal website: http://exchangesjournalwarwick.wordpress.com/

The deadline for the submission of a proposed paper is May 13th, 2013.

Authors will be informed by the editors by June 1st, 2013, as to whether their article will be sent for peer review. Those authors will be expected to redraft their work as required during July and August. Final copy of articles will be required in September, 2013.

Paid Summer Teaching Placements: PhD Tutors Wanted

The Brilliant Club has now opened recruitment for its 2013 summer placements offering doctoral researchers competitively paid teaching opportunities in June/July.

During June and July, tutors will be placed in a school to work with groups of six pupils, delivering a series of tutorials that takes them beyond the curriculum and helps them to develop the knowledge, skills and ambition necessary to secure places at top universities. Tutors will be supported by a training programme consisting of two half-day sessions and will accompany their pupils on two university trips, which will include their introductory and concluding tutorials.

In addition to earning up to £500 per placement successful candidates will gain valuable teaching experience, enhance their knowledge of the UK education system and develop a programme of tutorials based on their own research with a chance to disseminate it to a non-expert audience. As well as this, they will also join a cohort of like-minded researchers who are interested in widening access to highly-selective universities. For more information see http://www.brilliantclub.org and to apply for the midlands vacancies see http://www.thebrilliantclub.org/phd-students/apply-now-midlands/

The first assessment centre is running on Tuesday 16th April, so early applications are strongly encouraged. If you have any queries contact apply@thebrilliantclub.org.
