I've recently read several Murakami books and I have to confess I was left a bit underwhelmed.
I got the distinct impression that I was being a bit thick and missing some important intellectual point. Was I?
I did love Norwegian Wood though – which is what started me off reading some of his others.

The only other one I've read is Dance, Dance, Dance. Avoided Norwegian Wood because of the title and a friend's recommendation to steer clear.
Part of it I think is about the translation issue which inevitably loses subtlety. But also think he tends to be deliberately vague
