Not Kafkaesque but…

4 out of 5 stars
Entertaining stuff nevertheless. And certainly thought provoking. And a real page turner. It's kind of reminiscent of early Iain Banks (that's without the M). Anyway, a bit spooky in places but genuinely worth it I think.

  1. I've recently read several Murakami books and I have to confess I was left a bit underwhelmed.

I did love Norwegian Wood though – which is what started me off reading some of his others.

  2. The only other one I've read is Dance, Dance, Dance. Avoided Norwegian Wood because of the title and a friend's recommendation to steer clear.

Part of it I think is about the translation issue which inevitably loses subtlety. But also think he tends to be deliberately vague
