So I started at HSBC today. Christ almighty
Some top people working there – the job is actually okay. a bit mind-numbing… but what temp job for student isn't?
So if you're thinking of working there – great. The hours are a bit dodgy – 6.30pm – 11.30pm at HSBC's office in Binley Business Park. The real killer (which inspired the title of this entry) is the ten mile round trip which the job entails from my house.
Can I start by saying that five miles each way on a bike is soooooooo much easier in a freaking gym. In a gym you have the option of getting off when you want, a nice refreshing drink, a shower and maybe a swim. However, when you are not entirley sure of the route, and encounter a motorway at approximately three miles into the trip (illegal for bikes, and bloody stupid with no lights) a major detour is called for.
Cue me – no lights – on some bloody road on the outskirts of coventry. No street lamps either, and someone had the bloody good idea of not putting a pavement on the side of the road.
So its pitch black, I have to be in Binley in 20 minutes. Harsh blow. I commence my cycle along the rough grass on the side of this road in the middle of nowhere. Reminds me that hills are so much more effective in the real world.
Made it in the end, took a more lit route home through Central coventry and then back out of coventry to the Fletchamstead Highway.
Thought I was going to die. I think I may actually quit this job. Since when has ten miles of cycling through coventry at night worth earning £5.50 per hour for five hours of data entry.
It's a sorry state of affairs. I'm going to bed. I sincerely hope Web Design is the way forward. I really hate this sorta thing.
