Value of Knowledge

Knowledge knowledge knowledge..................what is the value of knowledge we talk about ?

Generally speaking we gain knowledge in order to survive. Without having knowledge of any things we cant survive. Things have advanced a lot and world is becoming too small now. This was the aspect of real life or survival, but actually what is the value of knowledge? What do we get from learning new things... Yes the obvious answer would be lot many things. But in theoritical sense we can say that gaining knowledge or learning knowledge helps us to focus on knowledge managment.

Application of knowledge would help you know where to apply it and at what time i.e. getting the right knowledge at right time and at right place. This also helps us to remember what we know. As knowledge can be remembered when we apply it. Hence this would help us to remember it for long years. As in real life it is said, you dont remember without experiencing anything. And after you experience it you never forget.

Creating knowledge in the sense that if you reflect on what you know, we stay good at it or even become better and this would surely be helful to remember as above and for the creation of new knowledge as well as assuring the condition of innovaiton.

So there is much more to it, but basically I would like say that knowledge has the highest value in this small world now.

Challenging Limits (Road to achieve new heights)

As the name suggests: Challenging Limits, means we have to challenge our limits in order to be successful in our life. This was the case in the field of quipment maintenance. Many years has passed and no progress was seen from the first technique i.e. Preventive maintenance. But later it itself challenged the limits as time was changing, hence the new form maintenance prevention and reliabilty engineering came into exitence providing a bit more than previous PM. And what we now refer and also I am working on is TPM which in fact is american style productive maintenance, modified and enhanced to fit the japanese industrial environment. But since the competition has increased now western contries have realised the importance of TPM.

Hence we can say that if our limits are not challenged we cant expect new things. There are four development stages of TPM which starts with Breakdown maintenance, preventive maintenance, productive maintenance, and finally TPM. Hence as time passed it has changed. And now the time to change again, to like that with knowledge managment. Knowingly or unknowingly it is present as TPM needs to maintain records of all the things they do. But now knowingly we need to connect it with knowledge managment which would be like icing on the cake.

Hence it is said that to challenge our own limits we need to learn something new in order to cross it. So now the days have come where assets management have to challenge thier own limits and should integrate with knowledge managment in order to work efficiently in this competitive world.

TPM Knowledge management

Total productive maintenance is not just only maintenance it is more than that. I am not selling TPM here, but surely as mentioned in my previous blogs it is something that will change our own habits if we follow it in our working place. But I started taking some of the steps which would help me from now, so that It would be easier for me to implement it in future in my working place or to work on it if required.

So how TPM helps in managing knowledge? It helps in many ways. At the stage of implementation I went through many such tables which is to be maintained while implementing TPM, hence we call it as storing data. Knowingly or unknowingly we maintain our records and this is storing of data. TPM is for continuous improvement, hence proper data collection would let us to know where we need to improve. And during this process top managment would ask employees and would guide them to know what are the areas for improvement. This would lead to knowledge sharing. And after that improvement activies start, and because previous data has been recorded it would be easier to go through it and not to make same mistakes. This is applying knowledge gained. And this process continues as while impoving also we are maintaining records and same process continues. So in general if we are implementing TPM, no other measures needs to be taken. Only thing is top management should have controll on the activities employee perform and should guide them to follow right path.

And in doing this automatically learning would be followed and again this would become routine with employees so this would spread everywhere.

TPM– improving ourselves.

Maintenance is vital for any asset. There are various ways of maintaining it. It might differ for small industries and big industries as it depends upon the work load you put on your machines ar any other asset. Hence Total productive maintenance is a techique via which this processes can be done effectively. TPM incorporates various steps which a company needs to follow in order to implement it sucessfully. There are various advantages of TPM as well as shortcomings. But if we try and focus on our activities than it would be sucessful.

While doing PMA, I went throughTPM implementation process for the first time, I understood that this is not an easy process. It needs proper commitement towards work, proper team work is required and various other things. There are various process if employees follow it perfectly than we can say that, in the process of maintaining thier assets they will also start maintaining themself. As there are several things which we need to follow in order to implement TPM, hence this makes an employee habituated to work properly while keeping their surroundings clean. Hence this will benefit them selves as well. It is not mentioned anywhere in literature but this is my personal experience. After focusing 40 hours on implementation I realised the point of maintenance and started with myself. As to reach to final destination a small step towards it is beneficial. Hence if at all I came across TPM in future, it would be very easy for me to implement.

So I think that TPM is such a technique which helps maintaining things as well as overselves.

Managing Assets and Knowledge gained

A good and informative journey of KBAM in-module is over now and the question I ask myself is what I have learned ?

The first and foremost thing that comes in my mind is about, bit ok knoledge gained on how to manage assets as well as information gained which can be said as knowledge. I was not aware of Asset management before but after this module I can surely recognise the different branches of Asset managment. I am confident now to explain in brief about the different aspects of asset management as well as knowledge management.

Knowledge gained is this past two weeks is very vital for everyone as it maily focues on "Managing knowledge" we gained. So it is upon us how we manage and store knowlegde we got from this module. And surely by learning knowledge management techiques I have learned it how to manage it as well as store it. This blogs will help me as well as notes which I have taken during these two weeks will be my storage place. It would surely be used in future so storing it as well as updating it during my postmodule work is also important in order to keep uptodate.

Hence it was finally a great end to the module where we actually worked in different teams and solved the issure of waveriders without having any prior knowledge in the field of Asset managemtn as well as Knowledge management.

Knowledge Gained

Hi,

Thing we see daily, learn daily, and implement daily is the vital things. There are lot many things which we know but we dont try to implement and there are certain things which without knowing we try to take risk. This is human mentality, I was also the same before I came here. After all these modules I realised that I am totally different from when I came here. There are so many things I learned during this 7 modules and will be learning throughtout but the main thing I liked and it actually realised after Paul Roberts our tutor said in the class when one of my friend asked question to him that what do we exaclty learn from this type of learning ? How do we justify what we know about the topic ?

Paul's answers was really an eye opener. He said you should say in the interview that I have worked with international batch of students, knowing nothing about the topic and even after studying 40 hours we were able to make some sense of the topic and gave solutions to the problems. This means team work, motivating each other, getting knowledge from other etc.

So this is the learning we have done and we can take any task into consideration without knowing it and can fullfil it. I realised that thing when Paul actually said to us the above statement. This has inspired me a lot, and the learning we get while doing different modules without any prior knowledge is immense, and surely I would implement it as soon as i get chance to Work. Hence Warwick has changed me a lot, it has made me think, try new things, and many other things. Which will be useful to me in my future. What do you think friends ?

Organisation learning and Knowledge transfer.

Organisation learning as well as knowledge transfer can be said as the most valuable assets of today's companies. Hence managing that type of assets is an important thing. Organisation learning is an activity which exists in organisation without any effort, as there might be employees who want to learn as well as want to share knowledge. Hence this is vital thing in any organisation. Knowledge shared as well as know should be saved in mind, or to any medium. As knowledge shared and stored will ultimately help when needed.

Hence we can say that any learning which takes place is usefull as well as more importance should be given to store it somewhere. This would actually help us to review that in future. Hence this practice of knowledge sharing as well as storing it will be really helpful. After reading many articles as well as book all have questioned one thing:

are employees willing to share knowledge ?

There are many possible answers to this and mainly it is based on individuals, how they think and what they like.

I personally do share knowledge without any fear. But the main question is why not all do it ??

TPM– a route to world class performance

hi,

Total productive maintenance is a world which just raises a question in your mind what is included in "total" ??

It has got mainly three meanings

1) Total effectiveness

2) Total maintenance system

3) Total participation of all employees.

Before starting this module I was not aware about this TPM. It was when I started reading it for doing inmodule work I really felt this is one of the theories or ways a company can achieve continuous improvement. I am really interesed in keeping things tidy and clear as possible. Hence I would rather say that I usually maintain my things well. This led me to interest in this topic TPM. Although it might be talking about how to use this in business, but even that is part of life and our might be our future.

TPM generally takes around 3 years to get an business achive high reslults as mentioned by many authors or practitioner of TPM. Hence this is actually a great tool or way to make a company progressive. There is detailed steps which a business need to perform in order to reach or achieve what they want. Hence proper dedication as well as good support from employees will help them to achieve it.

Hence this is my current interest and would surely like to look forward it in future. If any one likes maintaining or have interest into maintenance should surely look at this once. There might be other techniques as well but my conculsion to it is ,, it would surely be helpful. And I am looking forward to use it to my Brothers business as soon as I complete this course. Please do suggest if any recommendation or alternative.

Knowledge management is it new ?

Hi,

After going through KM process or steps where it says:

1) Generate

2) Store

3) Distribute

4) Apply.

I started thinking have I used this before ? But as you all know the answer was yes. We all are into learning process from when we are born. No one knows everything when they were born. Hence we are following this process since we were born, but not realised. A perferct example is School: Day starts with Professor giving lectures on topic and we take notes as well have some reference book. We used to write answers to the question as well as store it. And at the time of exams we used to apply it on paper. But this was uptil an extent.

But as we grow older the situation changes, every thing needs to be taken care off and if we are working(employee)then life gets more hard. Every bit of information needs to be stored as well distributed properly among the other employees to make them apply it properly. So just the level of knowledge has increased but the process is same. So i think is managing knowledge is not new. What do you think ?

Blogs a source of storing knowledge

hi,

Starting of new module is always exiting, we think that we are moving a step forward from where we were and where we want to reach. This motivates me, thinking about only few modules left and few months left for the master degree. And this journey was actually a mix of learning, fun, hardwork, etc.

This means that we all are capable of learning new things as well as adopting new atmosphere as time passes. And obvisously this knowledge we gained will be helpful to us throught our life. The same is the case with organisation, they learn different things daily and each moment. The problem is, it is very hard to remember all the things which happens. This is the reason why company should take proper steps to save its knowledge. This is called knowledge management.

Going through the topic of knowledge management is fun, but for this module it seems that taking a few drops of water from the ocean. I think that writing blogs is nothing but a storage place of our learning we did, which we can refer to any time when we need. Actually we are doing it regularly but realised now. This actually helps us, in the same way it has been proven that Knowledge managment helps organisation to move forward.

So continuing this would help me to save or remember what i have learned. It is not that after going from warwick il stop, but i would surely write more as that would be very crucial for me to refer it when needed.
