I. want. one.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

Just when I thought deciding between the Asus EEEEEEEEE PC and the HTC TyTN II (aka O2 xDA Stellar aka T-Mobile mDA Vario III) was difficult enough, there's now another one to add to the mix. I want that shiny thing pictured above. Looks like SEM have done the wise thing and dumped the rubbish Symbian OS and are installing Windows Mobile instead. Copying the HTC angle-sliding screen design, should be a hit. The only problem is its only got HSDPA but no wi-fi (according to the spec sheet) (update: it does have wifi!). It will probably out at the end of the year - hopefully when I'll have some money to afford one!

  1. Surely the Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee PC is the only one you could even contemplate using for text input? I’ve been wondering for a while if there are any grounds on which I could justify buying myself the Asus!

  2. hmmm yeah but I’ve heard the keyboard is unusably small anyway, so I was wondering how much worse can it be on a smart phone? I think when the ASUS costs less than a phone (RRP comparison), you could get it on any grounds. If you can see yourself carrying it around a lot more in daily life, then that would be a good reason too.

I thought the EEEEEE PC would be great to have banging about in my bag for “work purposes”, but my mate Chris said that’s what he convinced himself when he got an UMPC. It ended up being another toy to waste time on!

I wouldn’t buy an EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepc unless you don’t intend to do any typing or you have tiny hands that are at 90 degree angles to your wrists and point at each other. The keyboard isn’t fun to type on at all :( it’s also probably a little bit too big to be regarded as ultra-portable…

  5. Very nice. Unfortunately the product introduction video on SE’s website is about as much use as a car with no wheels. Yes there are lots of pretty things flying about in the air but show us the damn product! Seems to be some sort of colourful icons that whizz around every time you rotate the device….other than that not all that much information.

    Here is to hoping its

    a. Actually fast and doesn’t hang on every button press. Yes W900 series I’m looking at you. (I know that was based on UIQ but lets face it WinMob isn’t usually very processor friendly)
    b. It doesn’t need a damn stylus…..HTC Touch…yup looking at you now. All very well having “TouchFlow” oh wait I’m sorry “TouchFLO” but not very good as soon as you enter a website you need to scroll the tiny scrollbars and enter text using a tiny keypad.

Overall looks very nice. If its as smooth as the videos suggest then it could be a very sweet product. Don’t quite understand the lack of icons on the home screen and the need for you to flick through them (ala Cover Flow) but I’m sure it will be apparent.

Good work SE! Good to hear you have finally lost the Symbian Baggage :D

    Now if only I didn’t have my iPhone…......... ;)
