50 Fond Memories (Part I)
Here are some random memories I have. The type that spring into mind when you daydream in bed. (1–25)
Mr Dickson’s inspirational talks and anecdotes.
F1 demo in London. Mansell, Montoya, Brundle cruising down Regent Street destroying my ear drums.
Night exercises and camping during 4th Form CCF camp in the Bisley wilderness in Surrey.
Talking to Sue about music.
The burble of a V8 engine.
Acting the balcony scene from Romeo & Juliet whilst under fire from Tom and his BB gun
The drive to Woodland’s Place (Will’s house) either driving yourself, or as a passenger.
My room in Lakeside constantly playing jazz whilst the lava lamp gave it an atmospheric coloured hue.
Chilling out with my sister Avon to Norah Jones & The Handsome Band, front row in the Hammersmith Apollo April 2004.
Driving to Warwick on my own for an interview (with S. Davies) aged 17.
Interview with Dr Giblet of UCL Engineering – a really great and inspirational person (all that from an interview) “Go only where YOU want to go” he told me – he also gave me the secret of success, but I've lost it.
Winning tickets for the Belgian GP 2004 (but didn’t go).
Walking into my uncle’s friends’ farmhouse in Northern Ireland that had a smell of pipe smoke oozing from the walls, but was strangely reassuring.
When Mr Wilks comes to tune the piano he always plays a nice tune.
Playing football everyday at school in the hazy afternoons in Mill Hill.
Hearing piano maestro Einaudi in concert with Hanna.
The feeling when you get a heel-toe downshift perfect.
Our old house in Red Admiral Court.
Learning to drive with my instructor David Mitchell – basically 3 “lessons” a week for me to get on with it, whilst we discuss current affairs, his life: stories about his career driving with licence to speed and riding shotgun in a prototype Harrier jet over mainland Europe which was actually a time bomb because the missiles were armed and ready to fire!
Paul waking me up with hot breakfast and coffee 6am on a Japenese GP morning.
Driving back a long journey home on a moonlit night with family – and crooning to Stand By Me on the radio.
Cycling with my sister Nadia, around home, or on holiday.
Flying grob tutor planes for the first 10 minutes (before my stomach couldn't take anymore).
Chilling out with 2004–2005 Flat 39 peeps (Corinna, Andy, Maddy, Nhan,
Katherine) on the Square in Lakeside.
