Blogbuilder update

There has been a new release of Blogbuilder today with a few improvements and new features:

Alumni Permissions

Alumni Permissions

As well as writing entries that can only be seen by staff and students, users can now write entries that can be seen by all Alumni users who log in with their WGA users. This will not work retroactively and Alumni users will not be able to see "University–only" entries (only "University & Alumni" entries). If you find that the Alumni permissions do not work for you, then you may well have one of the old Alumni accounts we created before we had a proper authentication system that points to the WGA. If you are having trouble, let us know and we'll check out your account.

If you have joined the WGA and wish to maintain access to your blog after your ITS usercode expires, see this entry

Tag

The Warwick Blogs syntax (Textile) has been extended in order to allow users to post sound or video files on their blog that are hosted externally, such as MP3 files that are uploaded to a hosting account or video files from YouTube or Google Video.

You can put these onto your blog by taking the URL of the MP3 or video (or the URL of the YouTube/Google Video page where it is located) and wrapping them in a tag as follows:

Which will produce the desired result:

This is a wonderful moment for the embedding of old people into blogs everywhere.

  2. Wonderful indeed however I'm still unable to register with the WGA site in order to get a WGA username in order to continue to use my blog.

    14 Aug 2006, 15:01

  3. I've paid etc, but yeah it still won't let me register!

    14 Aug 2006, 15:17

  4. Is this not working?

    Join the WGA

Everyone who has been talking here is already a member, but you have to sign up to their website seperately, and that's not working because it doesn't register anyone as already being a member, which is quite useless.

  6. I see… Hmmm. I'll mention it to someone.

    Yay – that's fantastic!

I emailed WGA yesterday, and apparently we'll be able to register on the website in the next couple of days, as soon as they update their member list…

  8. I've e–mailed about not being able to register on the WGA site and this was the response I got…

    "Hi Ben

You definitely are not doing anything wrong. We are currently in the process of transferring data from Student Records to our database. Unfortunately, before this can be done everyone's record has to be updated with their degree information. This is a manual process which I am afraid does take a while but we are hoping this will be complete later on today or tomorrow.

I apologise for the inconvenience, please do keep trying to register.

    Best wishes
    Natalie"

So there we go… basically just keep trying and it'll work sooner or later.

  9. This is excellent news :) I'm also hoping that WGA will let me register soon…

    15 Aug 2006, 03:48

  10. I'm alumnified now

    15 Aug 2006, 15:15

  11. So am I thankfully

    15 Aug 2006, 16:39

  12. Same. Seems to be working at long last.

I just tried to sign in to WB and it says "Your account has been disabled" What does this mean?! Also I can't seem to access the WGA website, It only seems to let me load it on random days, is it something to do with being in China??

    16 Aug 2006, 06:06

  14. Hi Eleanor,

I don't think that error is correct, I suspect it was just a wrong password. When you say you can't access the WGA, do you mean you can't login with your WGA account or just can't get on the WGA site?

    16 Aug 2006, 10:30

  15. Luke "zomg they finally banned him from WB" Blackwell

The error which I was getting was that my username wasn't found at WB, and an email to blog staff said they didn't have me on the database. WGA say I've registered on their site which also says they have no record of my login. So… time for more emails. :(

I've always had trouble using the WGA site, it has to be said.

It's not really a case of your username being found at Warwick Blogs. Single Sign–on, which you can use for all Warwick websites, is integrated with the WGA database, so that when you log in with your email address and password (not your A0202022 or whatever username) on the WB website, it's just like you would on the WGA website, except it allows us to bind things like blogs to it.

Basically, if you can't log in on the WGA site, you won't be able to log in here :(

    16 Aug 2006, 11:06

  17. Eleanor O'Donnell

Kieran, I meant that the WGA site wouldn't load. So I've no chance of being able to log in, anywhere!! Oh actually its working now, I'll try again… Okay now it'll let me get through to the registering page, but won't actually let me register. It says I'm not a registered WGA member!! :(

    17 Aug 2006, 04:08

  18. Eleanor O'Donnell

Oh an my account is still disabled. I feel cheated of my last day of being 'cludar'! I thought it was supposed to expire on the 17th not the 16th :(

    17 Aug 2006, 04:11

  19. Luke Blackwell

It says I'm not registered WGA either, even though I can't see how I'm not. They must be keeping me quiet to prevent me helping that uprising led by a stray pack of mutant Babybel.

    17 Aug 2006, 14:40

  20. Eleanor/Luke. I'm afraid that we are totally reliant on the WGA for your authentication. If you're having trouble logging in, then you'll need to contact them I'm afraid :(

    17 Aug 2006, 16:55

  21. Mathew Mannion

The fix for things not appearing after saying "WGA" will appear soon

    :)

    17 Aug 2006, 16:58

  22. Eleanor O'Donnell

As for me it looks like it should be okay, I sent a frantic email, and was told my application hadn't been processed yet… and I'm not sure if has now, because WGA website only seems to want to load on odd dated days. I shall persevere. :)

    18 Aug 2006, 06:02

  23. Eleanor O'Donnell

I'm so happy!! I have registered on WGA :) Much excitement here!

    18 Aug 2006, 06:53

  24. Luke Blackwell

And meanwhile, I'll just have to sit around spamming this entry up complaining about how I haven't had a response at all from the WGA about my inability to log in.

    zomg BLOG HIJACK1!oneone11!

    21 Aug 2006, 00:57

  25. Poor Luke, its so frustrating isn't it?? Did you email Natalie Woods, I think it is? She helped me.

    21 Aug 2006, 06:01

  26. Chris Doidge

How long did it take for the WGA to respond to the online application? Is more than three days normal?

    24 Aug 2006, 09:55

  27. Yes, very much so. Took them about over a week to do mine. You could always e–mail and check though, they're very helpful.

    24 Aug 2006, 12:28

  28. S'up dudes. :)
