Had enjoyable experience observing outstanding maths teacher and walking around class helping students, the maths teacher had used three plenary opportunities to discover what kids had learnt using the traffic light card system. The teacher used good discipline technique including (the look) hints towards students immaturity “your year 8 now not a year 7”-this method seemed to do the trick.
The teacher also used the method of peer assessment making students check one another’s work to a successful result as there were more green cards up than amber (no red). Therefore students had appeared to learn something new. Teacher did well to keep to a timed plan structure.
I helped children with drawing acute, obtuse and reflex angles. I guided students towards their task with success. However, i did make a mistake by lack of subject knowledge (maths) by suggesting to a student that what they had drawn was correct. Teacher corrected student’s mistake and I apologised to both student and teacher-all was forgiven thankfully.
The second lesson was largely uneventful as the children had been set task carried over from previous lesson, this involved book references for information and the use of ICT. Teacher did display good use of hand gesturing and vocal capacity, teacher also expressed a passion in her topic R.E. this i wish to promote to a class under my control.
Overall, I have seen effective teaching and learning. This furthers my eagerness to be in the classroom environment.
