Amit's Campaign

Camera: Fuji FinePix S602z
Date: 27th Feburary 2006
Location: Piazza, Campus
Shutter: 1/350s
Aperture: F/4.5
ISO: 200
Comments: Here's Amit out on the piazza campaigning against top-up fees, there was plenty of official snappers there, so I though I'd capture the personal side of campaigning! It's all about the red background of balloons for me.

  1. Do I need to say it?
Hint: It starts with a 'c'

  2. Hahaha! Nice one!

Leave it on there. Was actually drinking tomato soup rather than coffee; just for the record; despite feeling extremely sleep deprived I felt it was more important to increase my fruit/veg tally for the day.

Hope u got some good ones of the protest as a whole, e.g. the banners and placards etc.

  3. Ah. For those who don't know my frequent response to photos on the Blogs, the 'c'-word was 'crop'!

  4. Crop where?? Any cropping (i) breaks my designed "rule of thirds" (ii) means I didn't compose the picture properly/zoom in enough!

  5. I'd be very tempted to get rid of all of the Piazza on the left-hand side, cropping the edge of Amit's head off. There are still approximate thirds in there.

If you don't crop a picture, does that prove you've composed it just right?! I know Cartier-Bresson never cropped a photo, but that's not a stage I'm at yet. You can justify cropping it by telling yourself your camera can't take nearly-square pictures!

  6. Ok, I gave the cropping a go, and it may look better but you then you couldn't tell, just from that snap, that it's on the piazza… and since I'm kinda playing for the Warwick crowd it's important to me that people can associate with shots like this.

    No offense! Sorry! =)

  7. Just out of curiosity, I'm no photo expert, what exactly is the "rule of thirds" and how is it applied? Sounds like one of those "oh so simple" techniques that can make things seem so much better…

  8. Absolutely no need to apologise, Nathan, and no offence taken. It's your work and your choice!

Amit: … oh, it's late, I'm tired and this isn't my blog; I'll let Nathan do it!

  9. No worries, I Googled it myself, and learn't a few other interesting tips along the way as well!
