Competence Profiling
Engineering Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have largely failed to take advantage of e-business opportunities, although early adopters have reported significant benefits. Recognising also that collaboration is really the only strategy open to SMEs to undertake higher value business, my research has introduced and tested the Competence Profiling Methodology to address the issues identified and assist SMEs in forming collaborative alliances, virtual organisations. Key conclusion is that information about the skills and capabilities (i.e. competences) of an engineering SME is far more essential than end products when participating in e-business and being searched by potential partners.
