PLK
Knowledge-based product life cycle management is an integrated field of study that combines elements from KM and Product life cycle management and is called PLK.
PLK is a combination of knowledge about the product throughout its life cycle and the processes that the product goes under. In other words a combination of the product and its environment. Under PLK an organization doesn’t simply regard its product as an independent item but considers its integration in the environment, how does it effect the surrounding environment and how is it affected by it.
An example immediately jumps to mind; how do some Apple product change people’s life style and their relations. Also, the social media products, such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, these products are clear examples of having a direct effect on the way we live, just consider the Arab spring phenomena being heavily influenced –if not almost exclusively led by- these social media outlets.
The application of this, is in considering all the product planned and speculated usages in its future environment, a good PLK will ensure more robust products that last the strongest competition, and even become a market leader.
