The Beleaguered Professor

At the crack of dawn

down the alleys of campus

camped a rowdy caucus

a clear sky it was

devoid of clouds

a calm, serene morning

at the dawn of this morning

the very crack of dawn

the news dawned on the caucus

it was the news of the irritant don

this news-

was no good news

This don-

a pedigree scholar

This don no small fellow

the don

a fellow of fellows

a widely read fellow

widely and wildly read fellow

this professor

professed the law

the news-

carried an ominous message

of the Professor’s negligence

the Professor’s reticence

and indifference

the news mentioned not,

the professor’s brilliance

Like a mob possessed by anger fits

the students took to the streets

an irate mob it was

descended on the streets

demanding the Professor exits

the demands heard only by the streets

The campus gates were closed

the lecture halls were closed

administration block too

many other places were closed

but not the Professor’s career

The professor was tough

made of hard stuff

every battleground was his turf

he fought rough

erratic was the curve of his graph

a mad month it was

a month of war

the Professor stood firm

when the dust settled

the Professor walked

with a majestic swagger

to greater heights
