Mat, Chris and Holly's Indie G–String – 16th March 2007

Police Brutality... Awesome.

Holly joined us in the studio for a collective orgy of music, live across the known Universe on RaW 1251AM, and hillarity ensued...

  • Three minutes of news. Wanna know what happened on Friday? Find out here
  • Guillemots – Trains to Brazil
  • Rakes – 22 Grand Job
  • Welcome to The Mat Mannion Show... That went down well… Chris’s landlord, Mr. Landlord, is dead.
  • Maximo Park – Our Velocity
  • Klaxons – Atlantis Interzone
  • It’s bloody dreary out, really. It’s a tough show for the Daily Mail… Mother’s Day and Interflora. If a woman’s chest fails, her vagina will fall out, and Chinese men are afraid their penis will go into their body. Weird.
  • The Clash – I Fought The Law (For all those poor souls who fought the establishment in Glasgow)
  • Aerosmith and Run DMC – Walk This Way
  • I apologise for mocking the efforts of the brave souls who fought the law in Glasgow. Unfortunately for them, the law won. And rightly so
  • Kings of Leon – On Call
  • The Jam – Going Underground
  • Holly’s friend and her very loud (3 hour) friends who live in the flat above and are very audible every night. What can we do? Good things.
  • Calvin Harris – Acceptable In The 80s
  • Give money to Comic Relief by texting HEARING to 82125 (texts cost £1)
  • Manic Street Preachers – Underdogs
  • New Manics album, some shitty (topless) producing
  • The Arcade Fire – No Cars Go
  • The show comes to an end, as does the current run. We’ll be back after the Easter holidays with more malarkey and hijinks, but that doesn’t include getting bladdered and being fished out of the bay from a capsized pedal boat at 4 in the morning… Well, never mix work and pleasure, I say. Also: The Arcade Fire live, Chris’s dead landlord’s funeral.
  • Feeder – Insomnia

Download FOR KEEPS

Apparently, according to Ofcom or Ofsted or someone you’re not allowed to say ‘bollocks’ or ‘tosser’, so… sorry. Not sure I said either of those two things, mind?!

Also, apologies for some really funky skipping whilst we played some songs. The digital playback system was really backed up and slow on Friday and it was causing some audio problems :(

Many thanks to Holly for joining the show this week.

Mat and Chris's Indie Nipple, 23rd Feb

God, we spoil you lot. This week the show started 6 and a bit minutes late because the show before us was interviewing Ash’s support act, who turned up very late because of traffic. The low droning the background all the way through the show is Ash warming up, so sorry about that.

MP3 Expired

  • The Long Blondes – Giddy Stratospheres
  • Chris is late to the studio, so I have to introduce the show on my own. It doesn’t go well.
  • Klaxons – Golden Skans
  • Idlewild – No Emotion
  • Chris finally arrives, migraine and all. We argue about exactly how late he is, and come to the conclusion that he’s wrong.
  • Maximo Park – Our Velocity
  • Bloc Party – The Prayer (Well, half of it)

At this point, we were trying to queue up some stuff on the digital playback system for the next link. The plan was to do a faux news broadcast, complete with the news jingle and the RaW news bedding. Unfortunately, the dps died spectacularly when trying to load the news bedding (we think because the file didn’t exist), the music cuts out… rabbits in the headlights!

  • We break the rules of radio by talking about technical stuff. Bloc Party are awesome, then we do faux news. Tony Blair rises from the dead at Easter, houmous is withdrawn from restaurants because of a salmonella scare. Who the hell is Tony Blour? Travel news live from campus. The travel is… Friday
  • Gwen Stefani ft. Akon – The Sweet Escape
  • The Shins – Phantom Limb
  • Chris unexpectedly becomes a massive racist. Lebanese restaurants, cats can survive falls onto their feet from 7 floors and upwards, and chimps hunt with spears apparantly.
  • Badly Drawn Boy – A Journey from A to B
  • CSS – Off The Hook
  • The best album of last year? Chris and I were basically in Hot Fuzz.
  • The Magic Numbers – This is a Song
  • The Decemberists – O, Valencia
  • The Magic Numbers are damn cheats. Someone requests lots of metal songs in a bout of optimism…
  • Muse – Hysteria

Mat and Chris's Indie Nipple, 16th Feb

Back once again like a renegade master, although over a week late. My bad.

In this week’s podcast:

  • Bloc Party – I Still Remember
  • The Shins – Phantom Limb
  • Introducing the show, talking about the snow the week before. We’re doing last week’s show… this week! Yay.
  • Manic Street Preachers – Tsunami
  • Presidents of the USA – Peaches
  • Who shot the sherrif? SU elections, Chris got elected to King of the World. Do staff care about students? Chris still hates Christianity despite his dad being a bishop. Sound.
  • The Futureheads – Hounds of Love
  • CSS – Alcohol
  • Randy Newman is a member of CSS, I mess around with the equipment and damn near break it. Chris got arrested, ha!
  • Klaxons – Two Receivers
  • Dogs Die In Hot Cars – Godhopping
  • We play Celebrity Two Word Tango again. Miiistaaake!
  • Muse – Recess
  • Idlewild – No Emotion
  • Househunting, throwing up, Nintendo Wii
  • Supergrass – Pumping On Your Stereo
  • Rachmaninoff, deadsies or not? Messing around with the kit, what terrible production…
  • Radiohead – The Bends

Does the podcast this week constitute racism? You decide.

In the podcast this week: (Apologies on the audio quality from my mic :()

  • Crowds are not allowed at tonight’s Big Brother eviction, so, y’know, don’t bother going.
  • I arrive at the station merely 15 seconds before the show starts (it was Chris’s fault for being a cripple) and therefore, far too loudly, announce the show from radio towers in Barbados. Sorry.
  • Guillemots – Trains to Brazil
  • R.E.M. – Bad Day
  • I make fun of the very disfigured Chris
  • The Cure – Why Can’t I Be You?
  • The Shins – Pressed In A Book
  • We talk about some silly person who says there’s no fit men at Warwick. She’s wrong. Thanks, Arianna Webb.
  • The Manic Street Preachers – Australia
  • The Libertines – Can’t Stand Me Now
  • The Sanctuary. It’s rubbish. Celebrity Big Brother. It’s rubbish. “Our Tone” doesn’t watch it!
  • Butthole Surfers – Dracula From Houston
  • Fields – Song For The Fields
  • One World Week. GOOD. Hilary Benn also (Nigel Benn’s dad)
  • Larrikin Love – Happy as Annie
  • Klaxons – The Bouncer (Worst song we’ve played for some time)
  • Chris is on Crystal Meth. Then we try and do on-air sudoku… and die on-air horribly.
  • The Young Knives – She’s Attracted To
  • Rakes – 22 Grand Job
  • We talk about cowbells and stuff. Entertainment! Anyone got any pain killazzz!?
  • Guns N’Roses – Welcome To The Jungle (Fucking COWBELL)

I’d like to make a truly serious apology for the production values this week. It was less than great and it’s usually much better than it was… sorry!

Mat and Chris's Indie Nipple – 12th January

Well, we're back. Super!

In this week's podcast:
  • The NEWS
  • Doves - Pounding
  • Cansei de Ser Sexy - Music Is My Hot Hot Sex
  • We talk about times and stuff.. we're back at 5 o clock next week, not 6. I whinge about PGCE students, because in fairness, they're bastards. I stab students, but I give back... And a big ABORT button to tune into Classic FM
  • Pulp - Disco 2000
  • The Arcade Fire - Intervention (Live on KCRW)
  • The Arcade Fire, Holly Cruise and her £128m over 5 years, the genre of the Klaxons, and some wonderful racism about Scientologists and TomKat.
  • Klaxons - Gravity's Rainbow
  • Radiohead - Idioteque (Live BBC Session)
  • We thank Thom for his wonderful live in-the-studio rendition. Thom doesn't seem to appreciate it... Bands touring hurts the environment, apparantly.
  • Bob Dylan - Subterranean Homesick Blues
  • Thom Yorke - Videotape (Acoustic, Live on From The Underground)
  • George Galloway... he hates war, but he loves RaW. Learning guitar, bedding music, air guitar competitions
  • Bloc Party - Song For Clay (Disappear Here)
  • Modest Mouse - Dashboard
  • We're on FM! Horrifying :)
  • Apples In Stereo - Same Old Drag
  • We completely cock up everything. Curses! We love you, though...
  • Muse - Knights of Cydonia

Come with me, come with me, we'll travel to infinity!

  • I cock up a few jingles. Score!
  • The Long Blondes – Swallow Tattoo
  • The Pipettes – Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me

  • Of Montreal – Gronlandic Edit
  • Listeners in the North experienced sound quality difficulties. Sorry.
  • Hot Chip – The Beach Party

  • The Charlatons – You’re So Pretty, We’re So Pretty
  • Brakes – Hold Me In The River

  • Eclecticism. Chris and Mat’s Indie Nipple
  • Bloc Party – The Prayer

A special double-podcast for you since I forgot to do it the past two weeks running…

Friday 17th November

Highlights:

  • Chris produces the show, hillarity ensures
  • We play lots of Track 2s

MP3 Expired

Friday 24th November

Highlights:

  • Music pub quizzage
  • I get my hands on some new jingles and bedding, and wrongality ensures

The first 10 minutes of the show were hijacked by RaW News, who very rudely didn’t tell us that they were going to come on, so that’s what the first 30 seconds or so is the end of.

Follow-up to Download the podcast… NOW from á la discothèque

Sir Digby Chicken Caesar and Ginger

This is me and my trusty sidekick Ginger, who unfortunately couldn’t make it to the show this week due to a nasty case of crotchitis.

Another week, another show, this time with my trusty co-hosts Captain Fantastic and Ultimate Kevin.

In this show:

  • The news, what it was yesterday and all that
  • The Long Blondes – Once and Never Again
  • Ejectorseat – Attack Attack Attack
  • We ramble on like idiots for ages, until we’re confident that the start of the next song isn’t too quiet
  • Bloc Party – Song For Clay
  • Phoenix – Long Distance Call
  • We discuss people clearing their throats at the end of songs, emails from Terrence, and we talk about the new Funkscreamer EP and them playing at the union TONIGHT, supported by Alan’s Rankets. Then it degenerates into a spherical show, very confusing.
  • Voxtrot – Your Biggest Fan
  • The Automatic – Gold Digger (Kanye West Cover)
  • We announce the death of John Belusci, Bill Murray and Dan Akroyd, then dedicate a song to Dan Belusci and John Akroyd.
  • We Are Scientists – Hoppípolla (Sigur Rós cover)
  • Metallica – Battery
  • We only let Battery play for about a minute before we started to talk over it, and that worked quite well. In fact, it was better, and the song wasn’t even finished when we moved onto the next one.
  • Muse – Easily
  • Art Brut – The Great Escape
  • We wish a happy birthday to HE THAT SHALL NOT BE NAMED and needlessly murder Dan and Chris.
  • Wolfmother – Woman
  • Mumm-ra – Out of the Question
  • We in no way fill 2 minutes with random crap
  • Queen – Fat Bottomed Girls

Radio broadcast... LARGE

Here’s something experimental… here’s the content that was played on Mat and Chris’s Indie Nipple, my radio show, last night on RaW

This content will only be available for a week and you must listen to it in full, so there. (Though a cut down talk-only version may be available at some point, forever!)

In this week’s podcast:

  • The news! Oh, wasn’t the news wonderful yesterday!
  • Two songs that I didn’t play myself, because I was late… oops, sorry :(
  • Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – In This Home On Ice
  • The Departure – Talkshow
  • Regina Spektor – On The Radio
  • Some lovely banter about how I couldn’t work out how to get the emails on my system because I’m stupid and it all changed :( And how hallowe’en is an anticlimax
  • Keith – Hold That Gun
  • Ben Folds – In Between Days
  • CSS – Music Is My Hot Hot Sex
  • Klaxons – Magick
  • A wonderful story about cousins and whatnot. Set to the Baby Elephant Walk! Ace.
  • Arctic Monkeys – When The Sun Goes Down (Request)
  • Badly Drawn Boy – A Journey From A To B
  • Rambling in embarassment at playing the wrong Badly Drawn Boy song, and a bad one at that, and whinging about Oasis releasing a B side as a single
  • Oasis – Acquiesce
  • David Bowie – Space Oddity
  • I whinge for 3 minutes of filler about how my two guests are completely incompetent and got the show times wrong and what I’m going to do to them, and also about the Assassins Guild at Warwick. Then I say bye
  • Muse – Knights of Cydonia

This show has now expired as podcasts are only available for a week. However, you can see all RaW podcasts here
