This Year's Music

Last year was a very good year for music, in my opinion.
Acoustic Ladyland, QOTSA, Eels, Jose, Bloc, British Sea Power, The National, Van, the Coral, Beck, Sufjan, CYHSY, probably some more I forgot.

Maybe this year has passed me by, but it seems like there hasn't been a decent album.

Maybe I'm still too upset by the poor outing of Van Morrison and the positively unlistenable efforts of Belle & Sebastian and Flaming Lips to search out any.

Perhaps someone could point me in the direction of some good music from this year, because I can't remember any. Jose EP, I guess.

    Tool– 10,000 Days
    Mogwai– Mr Beast
    Mono– You Are There
Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan– Ballad Of The Broken Seas
    Boris– Pink
    Calexico– Garden Ruin
    Alva Noto– For
Inch–Time– As The Moon Draws Water
Leafcutter John– The Forest And The Sea
    Boards Of Canada– Skyliner EP

Pearl Jam's self–titled album was ok, but a bit below par. New albums by Isis, Red Sparowes and The Mars Volta before the end of the year, and perhaps a new Neurosis one too. It's looking a good year I'd say, not a bad one.

iForward Russia! – Give me a wall is brilliant
Dresden Dolls – Yes Virginia also

  4. Camera Obscura – Let's Get Out Of This Country
Final Fantasy – He Poos Clouds
    Herbert – Scale
Sunset Rubdown – Shut Up, I'm Dreaming

I dunno if any are those tickle your fancy, but they've made me happy.
Field Music should have an album out soon, which excites me a little. Shame the Shins record has been pushed back to 2007…

The Calexico album's cool, but not as good as their previous albums, Hot Rail and Feast Of Wire. Need to check out the Herbert album, got that jazz one he did with the Big Band, which is cool.

  6. Leafcutter John has already been mentioned, but so far this year I've also liked: –

    The Knife – Silent Shout
    Sonic Youth – Rather Ripped
    Liars – Drum's Not Dead

  7. Tom

Muse – Black Holes and Revelations
    Thom Yorke – Eraser
    Snow Patrol – Eyes Open
The Zutons – Tired of Hangin' Around

I agree with the Zutons, that albums great Tom. I saw them live last year at the Mellennium Stadium (supporting REM) and they were awesome…. not as good as REM though, obviously!

  9. Sonic Youth is done already. I'm still working through the Knife's first album, not sure they're an album band really.
Thanks for the tips, guys. Apart from comment 7. That has to be a joke. Nice one.

  10. Secret Machines.

I am loving Muse but I know how much Vincent wouldn't love them. And Ladyfuzz. But I've written about them before so it's shut time from me.

I don't think you can have too much Ladyfuzz, I bought their album after hearing/reading them on here and am very impressed. Not sure it's an album I'd reccomend to everyone though…

    • Engerica – "There Are No Happy Endings"
    • Hundred Reasons – "Kill Your Own"

    – Best two albums I've heard so far this year… (yes, Hundred Reasons. Who'd have thought it?!)

  13. It's probably cos I'm not in RaW any more, but I too have noticed the lack of decent albums this year. Apart from the Arctic Monkeys, of course.

  14. Perhaps Bob Dylan will save 2006.

  15. The Delays latest offering was a nice little surprise. More consistent song writing than the first and rocks a bit more too.
