Call For Submissions: Additive Combinatorics Songs About Domestic Violence

Here are two fun songs I have been listening to recently.

Fight Like Apes – Lend Me Your Face

Florence and the Machine – Kiss With a Fist

They are both about girlfriends beating up boyfriends. GIRL-POWER and such!

Neither video had I seen before finding the links to support this entry and I feel they are both disappointing, though one is very Mike Figgis and the other is very, er, arousing in the Alexander Skarsgard way.

Oh fuck off you so WOULD

But what other songs are about domestic violence?

Obviously we have pretty much one in every three of EMINEM’s (he does love to rap about doing nasty things to Kim doesn’t he) but how about Rock, particularly Indie Rock?

Click here and post your favourite songs about domestic violence.

Oh man Im taking it to the NEXT LEVEL

    Love Punch by The Chalets

“I’m coming home to a punch or a kiss, you tell me it’s your heart but I know it’s your fists! Okay!”
“I know you love me but you’re fucking crazy”
“You say we’re making love but I call that a rape! Alright!”

    Uhh.. yes.

‘Yeah Oh Yeah’ by the Magnetic Fields:

    I’ve enjoyed making you
    miserable for years
    found peace of mind in
    playing on your fears
How I loved to catch your gold
and silver tears, but now my dear
What a dark and dreary life
Are you reaching for a knife?
Could you really kill your wife?
    Yeah! Oh, yeah!
    Oh, I die, I die, I die!
So it’s over, you and I
Was my whole life just a lie?
    Yeah! Oh, yeah!

    Another girlfriend-beating-up-boyfriend one:

Kill your television – Ned’s Atomic Dustbin

    she said, she said
    ‘you don’t know shit,
    because you’ve never been there’
    she turned upon him,
    took him by the hair
    spun him round about,
    laughing as he fell about,
    sat down for a drink
    in her father’s favourite chair

  5. It’s only OK if it’s girlfriends beating up boyfriends in comically Tom and Jerry style.

    Otherwise it’s just, er, bad?

I’m not sure if Stainless Steel by iLiKETRAiNS counts, since it’s about a domestic murder. Well, it’s a violent murder, but that’s not really what we understand by ‘domestic violence’ as a phrase. However:

Please don’t go into the kitchen, that’s where the knives are
and i won’t be held responsible
they won’t make me out to be the monster you made me become

i will sleep in our bed tonight,
where you once slept with her,
a good nights sleep for once,
and one for you forever more
i will sleep in our bed tonight

please don’t go into the kitchen, that’s where the knives are
    ah… ah…
you did me wrong and now it’s time to put things right
i need you like i need a hole in the head
and i will sleep in our bed tonight,
where you once slept with her,
a good nights sleep for once,
and one for you forever more

i will sleep in our bed tonight
you can have the kitchen floor
i will sleep in our bed tonight,
where you once slept with her,
a good nights sleep for once,
and one for you forever more
i will sleep in our bed… tonight

I was going to say Lovepunch! Jimbob BEAT me to it. The PUNCH, that is.

‘Fistfuls Of Love’ by Antony & The Johnsons. ‘There She Goes Again’ by The Velvet Underground. Indie enough for you?

Grower, noun. A bad album that you force yourself to like because it’s by Radiohead.

Helen Love – Beat him up.

Who’s that boy who made you blue?
Stuck those bruises all over you?
We’re gonna find him soon and beat him up,
    Just because he cries sometimes,
When he’s kicked your face and smashed your spine,
We’re going out to find him and beat him up
