KBAM: Analytical thinking and Strategic Planning

The main learning points from KBAM presentation were:

Strategic Planning and Analytical thinking

Actually working for the same company and making strategies for that company made us feel apart of that non existing company and having the prior knowledge about that company, we worked as team considering all the previos decisions and constructing new strategies for that company. This exercise was quiet close to the real world example where you work for one company and make strategies and analyze the effect of those decisions on the profitability of the company. I developed these skills and will be quiet helpful in future. Now, I will be confident enough to make robust decisions for a company from analytical point of view.

KBAM: Self Assessment Practice

Paul I am inspired by your way of teaching and organizing things in such a way that they capture listener's thoughts and influence them to do it the way you want it. This last practice of self assessment was actually the best one where we had to think from your point of view and assess ourself from your perspective that where do we rank and what was asked from us? I think self assessment is the best way to analyze one's own performance and one knows where he/she stands. I am looking forward to create a similar platform in the organization where I'll be working in future and adopting similar creative ideas to be an influential leader and drive them to practice those things which will benefit them in longer term. Doing the self assessment exercise in KBAM actually revealed some strengths and areas of improvement which were never noticed and will work on them to get the most out of it.

Continuous Improvement MBE

The course MBE is a sequential process to improve continuously that is all interlinked and the modules are arranged in a specific order that things get derieved from the earlier ones. KBAM module was the accumulative of all those previous modules and a combination of all that profound knowledge that we used in our presentation and this module actually created a sense of self awareness and realization in all of us that we are not the same as we were before and we are a step ahead on the track of continuous improvement. Blogging, reflections, self assessment, exercises, pma's, feed forwards are all the forms of knowledge management and we had been practicing all these activities since the start of this course. I will never let go these practices in future and will always improve continuously and practices like knowledge sharing, self assessments and reflections will be a part of my life.

Environmental factors contributing to develop wisdom

I raised a point in class today that there might be some environmental factors that can develop or support the criteria to develop wisdom and it may include your social circle, community or friends. I can give an example that in this course of MBE, we found out the importance of reflections and we were asked to do this reflection, so basically we were provided with a platform that actually helps in developing wisdom. I think to some extent they do as if you stay in a company of wise people and observing them enables you to develop such attributes that are helpful in developing wisdom.

But here comes another factor that is WILL. If you do not have the will to learn and you are not going to adopt those good ways of learning being provided then environmental factors play a minimal role. So, a desire to learn should be there and in future, as a manger I would try to make an infrastructure where importance of the provided platform would be acknowledged and understood by everyone, so that they get the maximum out of it

Reflections: An Important Criteria to develop wisdom

May be we all had been denying the importance of reflections and blogs in the beginning of this course and were unhappy to do this extra task be rewarded marks for this activity because, some people are good at explaining their thoughts and learnings where as others might not be that good at writing it down. But after getting used to this routine of blogging and reflecting on daily activities, I am constantly improving myself. In class seminar today, we had a philospohical discussion on wisdom, how to develop it and what criteria plays the most important role in its development. No doubt experiences and observations come in mind at first but experience can be of many types and can relate to many things that may not necessarily develop wisdom. A person having an exposure to different parts of world, had interaction with different people belonging to different culture might not be as wise as a person having no experience but observes more, reflects on those observations and learn from those observations. So I am now understanding the importance of reflective writing and I will maintain this habit of doing reflections in future to learn constantly and improve myself.

Anticipation Error

How important is the need to have all the knowledge and information required to carry out a particular task? Anticipations can go wrong due to lack of information and knowledge and it may cause an anticipation error. In real life, decisions are made on anticipated reasoning and the reasoning can be justified if there is enough relevant information available to back that reasoning. So, to avoid anticipation errors it is required that all information is available and it must be observed carefully before making any anticipations. In practical life, I will definitely access all the information relevant to decision and based on that information, I will anticipate the future circumstances and will make decisions accordingly.

Incorrect Mental Order

Studied a new concept today about incorrect mental order and there were quiet a many learning points in this session. What you think is appropriate or right for one scenario might not be appropriate for all and that is why having a generalized opinion is not good. Examples like tackling of a sports bike is not the same for the normal bike. Now this error helped me out in correcting this mistake that I used to do was dealing everyone in the same way and assuming that these general behaviors would be appreciated by everyone no matter to which culuture or class they belong. In future, being a manager of any company, understanding the employees and their mental order would define my behavior and attitude towards them.

Importance of Maintenance Management

Maintenance management is one type of asset management and studying it in detail revealed some very significant aspects of this management. Organizations carry out maintenance in following different types. First one is reactive maintenance, second one is preventive maintenance and then predictive maintenance and reliability centered maintenance management. Assets wear out after a certain time period and their maintenance is required but it depends upon the organization that which type of maintenance will they carry out. I went through the topic and learnt that reliability centered maintenance management is the finest of all because of the increased competition for quality and high market demands, it is wise to adopt such methods that help in lean manufacturing. In future scenarios, I will try to adopt this type of maintenance management to avoid operational barriers.

Importance of Communication

Leadership effectiveness is possible only if clear communication is done and everyone in the organization gets to know about the vision and strategy of the organization. It is an important tool in transformational leadership and itss effective use by the leaders make their leadership more effective and help in achieving the desired results. Transformation is not possible without the involvement of everyone in the organization and even here communication enables top management to drive change.

I learnt that formal and informal contacts between top management and employees need to be conducted to get the desired results.

Importance of relation between leader and subordinates

Transformation of an organization is a three step process of revitalization, creating a new vision and institutionalizing change. For this transformation of the organization, transformational leaders act as change agents and create an atmosphere where everyone is involved in driving change and achieving a common mission. Communication is the main tool used by these leaders to achieve this goal.

In the learning phase of this module, I realized the importance of relation between leader and his/her followers. We all have this thinking that respect for leader is only possible if he keeps a distance with his/her followers to contact them formally and occassionally but after reading about this leadership style, it changed my thinking because trust and confidence in the leader drives respect for him/her and this trust and confidence in leader is possible if there is this informal contact between leader and his/her followers.
