Have you ever thought about how perfumes make you feel or the sense of space that they create in your mind?
Sometimes we are attracted by the smell but quite often, it is the bottle that attracts us.
As a designer, I have always been concerned about the relationship between the way each perfume makes me feel and the design of its bottle. Therefore, I’m trying to unveil the secrets in designing perfume bottles.
Yesterday I took part in the launch of two new perfumes by Majda Bekkali, both from Andalus collection. To know more about Majda and her new collection, please visit:

Majda is currently in Iran and this gave me the chance to talk with her about her perfume bottles and their design process.
She explained that the concept of the bottles came from the nature. She picked some stones and casted a few moules until she became satisfied with the design. It is interesting to know that all perfume bottles are hand crafted, the energy that is transmitted each time that the piece is touched by a craftsman, is what makes it even more unique. Another interesting fact about the bottle, is how ergonomic it is.
We also talked about on of her other perfumes named « mon nom est rouge », meaning my name is red. She explained that she has created the scent so that a blind person can feel the color, red. To know more about this this perfume and its ingredients, look at the following link: http://www.majdabekkaliparis.com/index.php?option=mon-nom-est-rouge

I had translated the toolkit labeled ‘Design Thinking for Educators’ to Farsi and had already sent the translation to IDEO so they can put it online to be used by more people. Until then, I will post the translation here on a weekly basis. If you want to try this method, you are more than welcome to use it but if you decided to share the document with others, please mention my name.
Hope it will be useful for you.

« Design Thinking for Educators » is a toolkit provided by IDEO. It is a problem solving tool by means of which you can overcome almost any challenge. It focuses specifically on challenges faced in educational settings such as classrooms, schools and universities.
Last semester I decided to work on this toolkit so I started translating it to Farsi. It was a tough job but the results cherished me. My students worked in groups of 3 to 5, focusing on two main challenges:
1. How might we provide a leisure space within the university?
2. How might we redesign the registration process at the university?
But we had a bigger challenge at the beginning; How might we adapt this toolkit to our culture? In other words, how might we localize the process provided by the toolkit?
I tried my best to be faithful to the process but due to some cultural differences, I decided to make some small changes. The « Exercise Book » seemed boring for the students as it had a lot of repetitive parts, so we decided to skip those sections. In general, the toolkit was really helpful in coming up with some solutions. You can find the prototypes here:

P.s: The good news is that the translation is being edited by IDEO and soon it will be available for anyone interested.
