Phorm Privacy and Web Advertising
Phorm Privacy and Web Advertising
Introduction
I have been doing some research onto the program Phorm which is beiong used to target advertising. It seems that like the Beacon system that Facebook users rebelled against it is through devious means managing to harvest information from users via their Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
I don't have time right now to pull all the results and links together so this is currently a post just to flag up the danger.
The BBCF News Site had this story on Thursday June 5th:
Call to prosecute BT for ad trial
There is an E petitition to sign up to here if the privacy issues worry you which they should. The issues are about users having rights to opt into a system rather than have to opt out and also the issues of what is done with the data information harvested. Some people may wish to have highly targeted advertising made available to them but lot's don't. It is very important to resist the surveillance society.

You can find lots more on Phorm at these excellent information pages:
Facebook – Search for ‘Bad Phorm’ group – it has links to events since this became news worthy in February

(A fantastic summary of what is wrong with Phorm Webwise and BT the ISP)
And PLEASE visit this site:
www.noDPI.org
No DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) has great info from Alexander Hanff who is (my view) a genius on this subject of DPI and Phorm.
Please consider attending the demonstration in London outside the BT AGM at the Barbican centre to hear more about the issues and help show that the public are not accepting this development. You have nothing to hide, I have nothing to hide, but being watched/spied on is not acceptable.
Why can BT get away with it? If you or I interceted just a few Broadband Connections we would be arrested. How can BT do it and suffer NO consequences at all. Shame on them, shame on the Information Commissioner and shame on their families!
