Afghan elections continued

Writing about web page http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=12110&Cr=Afghanistan&Cr1=

The UN news website takes a relatively positive view on the then-upcoming elections, stressing how hopeful displaced citizens were signing up from Iran and Pakistan, with problems only arising because of the lack of foresight in preparing polling stations for women, (An interesting comparison with Saudi Arabia perhaps which, despite having a far superior infrastructure, could still not prepare its own polling stations for the presence of women.)

However the Reuters network takes a far more pessimistic view, reporting on CARE International's warning that 'corruption, lack of rule of law and the drugs trade' were the main problems facing Afghanistan. The disarming of warlords and their militias is seen as more crucial to Afghanistan's recovery by this agency.
