No Interviews Tonight

The hip Brit approached us again, for the second time this evening. His mixture of might-be-gay, well-dressed and extremely polite made him appear the stereotype Londoner from a film like Love Actually or Bridget Jones. That type of guy.

“Hi, at the moment, I´m just going around, kind of asking everybody what they are doing in Barcelona and so on. So what is it that made you two come here?” Great. To be fair, it was the kind of club, where a question like that made sense and would not just meet a surprised “But I just live here!” with a thick Spanish accent. A German, Swedish or otherwise blond-haired country accent would be more likely.

The Brit now started to act a little funny role, pretending to be a quiz master, what´s more, pretending to be a funny quiz master. “Ok, so, do you see the top of that parasol? There´s actually a hidden camera in it.” His hand suddenly became an imaginary microphone, which he pointed in our direction. “Ok, I study here”, I said, not to be impolite. “Politics.” “Ah, Erasmus students, eh?” he said with a knowing and sly smile. The two of us nodded obligingly. “And what do you think of the course she´s doing?” “Oh, she´s also doing a very interesting course.” I answered.

Then it was our turn. “Maybe you can tell the people watching at home what you are doing?” I suggested in an idiom that might sound more familiar to him. “Ah…well, my friends and I are here on a government trip. But it´s actually secret, so I can´t really tell you”, he said, making an apologising face. He added confidingly, as if we seemed trustworthy enough, “Let´s just say it´s a little governmental organisation kind of thing.”

At that moment his friend joined the conversation. I could see where this was going. They were either after me or my lady friend. Or it would just end up with a long bullshitational and boring conversation about nothing, telling people that I really had nothing to tell all the clichés over again. Hence, I subtly withdrew to fetch another drink. No interviews tonight please.
