London's Poor Side

Help a London ChildThis world never seizes to surprise me, and not always in a pleasant way…

Today I was stunned by a figure beyond belief, although everybody should know it, as it is published on every single tube map of London.

One in three children in London live below the poverty line.

How is this possible? Possibly one of the world’s ten richest cities where such a great number of children do not seem to benefit the least from its wealth.

These things stun me and make me sad…

  1. What really gets me is that you get a lot of organisations who try and get you to donate money to children abroad. Fine, I am all for helping those in need, especially children, anywhere in the world, but as the saying goes “charity starts at home”. how do i know that the money you want me to send to africa is going to african children? how do i know that the child i ‘sponsor’ is really getting every penny i am sending him or her? I think those kind of organisations need to help the one out of three children in London, and then they will have more people available to help the others around the world.
