Gatos de la Vila

Prrrroxima estació...The days glide by, the weather gets colder. Even here. And not only students have to bear it.

The Vila Universitaria, the Autonoma’s residential campus, is rich of cats. Not owned by anyone in particular, they just bum around and get fed by the students. In front of my flat is a little hide-out where a whole family seems to have their headquarters. Every now and then, one approaches you and gives you a cute little miaauuw. What’s better than life as a cat on a Spanish campus?

Or so I thought. At nights you see cats inspecting the garbage bins, and not just one, quite a few. And on closer inspection, the cats don’t look so healthy and well-fed at all.

Today a little kitten came close and gave me another one of those begging miaauws. It was already looking a lot less fresh and wooly than last month when I arrived. These are autumn hardships in Barcelona.
