España/Espanya. Cataluña/Catalunya.

Postcard view of UABThis is my first blog entry from Bellaterra in Catalonia, Spain. It has taken me a few days to organise myself in all respects; housing-wise, university bureaucracy-wise, and practical stuff-wise. For example, I still have been unable to find a way to access the internet from my own laptop in my own appartment, but this is only minor problem. I´ll just blog and email from library computers.

La Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona is in fact not in Barcelona, but half an hour/40 mins´ metro ride from the centre. I was already suspecting something like that before I came, but luckily the connections are very good and nightbusses are always an option.

¿Que más, para empezar? My first impressions: no stress, no career hunters like some types at Warwick, very hot (until now above 30 degrees celsius almost every day), and Catalán is a very different language than Spanish, or, to be more correct, Castillian.

This will be it for today, more anecdotes are sure to follow. Already, every day I´m experiencing a week´s impressions.
