Global Business Environment PMA

I am stuck.

I don't know how to write my PMA. I am in panic.

Well, let me explain first.

First of all, I have chosen the aerospace sector for my Globalisation assignment. So I need to use a maximum 4000 words to describe what happened in the aerospace industry about globalisation, and discuss the impact on trade patterns, growth rates of output and employment in an OECD country.

It sounds quite straightforward and I was also very confident. I got examples, Airbus, Boeing all work globally. They have suppliers all around the world, and they sell their products all around the world. therefore, the aerospace industry is basically a globalised industry.

I then worked out my outline.

1. Introduction (Globalisation in general)

2. Globalisation in the aerospace sector (History, what caused it, mainly cheap labour cost in China, India etc)

3. The Impact of Globalisation:

  •    Trade Pattern: Supply Chain intergration
  •    Investment: FDI or International Investment, Outsourcing or Subsidiary
  •    Impact on output ( use Airbus's new assembly in China as example, what is their productivity)
  •    Impact on employment ( find out the employment at Boeing in the USA)

4. The future

5. Conclusion

I worked out the structure but I find it is very hard to find information. I searched the internet, but have not found any journal really valuable. I think I am on the right track, but why it is so difficult to find information, especially with regards to the impact of globalisation, I need evidence to back up what I want to say, but it is just difficult, I'm Stuck.

    Hi,
Have you tried using any Library resources?
    Go to this page: http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/library/main/tealea/
And select your subject area from the drop down list – there will be a collection of Key Electronic resources for you to use to search quality journals.
if you are still having difficulty check to see who your Subject Librarian is (under the Staff Details link for your subject) and contact them to ask for advice.
    Thanks,
    Katharine

    Hi, Mei,

Sorry to hear you’re stuck with finding information for your PMA. It might be worth asking your tutor for advice but one of the Library database training sessions for WMG students might also help.

    Best wishes,

  3. Mei,

Two suggestions. First talk to the experts. The guys in the library as well as the teachers in WMG.

Second, start writing what you already know as if you were explaining it to a parent, a friend. Things get more clear after a while.

  4. Thanks to you all for your suggestion. As Francisco said, I am starting to write it down what I have known. I have also checked the library resource, there are some journals relate to Globalization, however, the impact on the aerospace sector is a bit difficult to find. I will keep digging first.

Again, thank you all for the good suggestions.

    Hi, Mei,

Try searching one of the Library’s databases – it’s quicker than searching journals individually. You’ll find a list on the Library’s Resources page for Manufacturing. Business Source Premier is one database but there are several others.

Ask for help if you still need it.
