The Future of Airbus

Dr John Garside – Principle Fellow of WMG at the University of Warwick is a veteran of the British aerospace industry.

Contact him on 02476 524740, or via the press officer on 07876 217740.

Last year BA Systems sold its share in Airbus. With no stake at the table it has condemned wing manufacture to long-term declince.

The French and German governments treat Airbus as a nationalised industry and a source of jobs, while in the UK this is a secondary consideration to profitability.

With China entering the market it seems certain that manufacture of wings will leave the UK and, in 20 years time, 12,000 jobs currently in Britain will be gone.
