University Expert – The Business of Football

Another football season is drawing to an end. The pressure on clubs to succeed, or at the least avoid failure, is as intense as ever before. The Abramovich billions have transformed Chelsea into a major force, but away from the heights of the Premiership, clubs are struggling to pay the daily bills. And what is the significance of the success of Everton, Bolton and Wigan – clubs who have acheived great things on limited budgets. What does the future hold for Manchester United, the subject of takeover speculation from US businessman Malcolm Glazier.

Dr Susan Bridgewater, Warwick Business School is an expert on marketing and strategy in professional sports and football clubs as brands.
