One down, nine to go.
So at last we come to the end of the first week of term – always the most tiring and difficult. And so far I've found that living off campus means spending a hell of a lot of time trying to find things to do to fill the gaping voids in the timetable between one lecture and the next; I've even resorted to working to get through the day. Living off campus also means more expense as things like travel suddenly start to cost serious money (£67 for a bus pass for example).
Anyway, that's enough of my moaning about living off campus, now I'm going to turn to all the * gasp * changes they've been making to campus whilst our backs have been turned. Whilst the refurbishments to Kaleidoscope are nice, two things do rather jar: the first is that they could, at the same time, have seen their way clear to introduce re-usable cutlery and crockery, and second, Café Library is as pathetically utilitarian a name as I have ever come across. Have they run out of ideas for names for places or something? Presumably we can expect Raffles to become The Humanities sandwich bar and for Viva also to acquire some geographical monicker. And another thing, why is it that they're always closing the road or the pavement somewhere on campus? They closed off a section of pavement between Humanities and the Library yesterday morning and they're still putting the finishing touches to the re-surfacing work on Gibbet Hill Road. They're worse than utilities companies sometimes.
Anyway, some good changes have also taken place (just to prove that I'm not a young fogey). The new computers in the Open Access IT area are excellent, as are the new barriers at the entrance to the Library (once you work out how they work :o). And, of course, the new blog system is good too.
