Random thoughts of the day…

Has anyone else noticed that of all the groups on facebook that people join, one of the most often seen recurring themes is "I've dropped my phone down the toilet, numbers please".

Now is it just me, or does that not seem like a rather ridiculously careless thing to do? "Oh no, I was playing a game of solitaire while texting my friend Dave and also talking to my mum all at the same time as using the little boy's room and it accidently fell out of my hand and into the toilet."

Just a thought.

I was speaking to someone in the Comms Office here about this, who’d managed to drop her phone down the toilet. How the hell a girl manages to drop their phone down the toilet is beyond me.

    The mind boggles.

  2. You seem to suggest it’s easier for a bloke to do it… How so?

Because if you’re checking your text messages while having a wee as a bloke, your phone is hovering over the bowl, whereas for a girl, it is not.

Well I can assure you it is possible…

Now I’m not saying that I’ve done it, but I would caution against leaving your phone in your shirt pocket while bending forward to raise a loo seat…

Those old Nokia’s were very slippy…

I wonder if girls manage it by placing the phone in their back pocket, and thus when undoing the trousers, it loosens the hold of the pocket? That’s the only explaination I can think of… unless of course you put it on the systern, it goes off and vibrates so much it falls into the bowl while you’re washing your hands. A similar situation to this happened to my brother, while he was sleeping, his phone vibrated off his shelf into a pint of water on his desk. Mind you, I think he’s just careless. He’s the sort of forgetful person who leaves his phone on the roof of a car (although luckily it slid off and wedged on the rear windscreen wiper).

Ok, so I just had to go to the toilet to reconstruct how I managed to drop my phone down the loo and to make sure I am not weird (I didn’t drop the phone down the toilet this time though!)

So I was wearing a long-ish full skirt and a short cropped jacket. The phone was in the pocket of the cropped jacket (with very small pockets). I entered the toilet and had to lean forward to lift the bottom of the skirt. Now i’m not sure why I was lifting the front rather than the back, I think it’s because the skirt was so long that it was harder to reach the back… and i’m not sure why I was facing the toilet rather than the door… I don’t know what the common approach for girls is here but on this occassion I was facing the loo. So I bent to lift my skirt and the phone dropped out of my jacket pocket and into the loo.

And that’s how this girl managed to drop her phone down the toilet.

Lucy is spot-on. That is exactly what I did – kept the phone in the back pocket of my jeans cos I was expecting an important call. When nature called, I dashed to the loo and .. yes, it fell straight out of my back pocket into the loo. Despite leaving it in the airing cupboard for a week, it could not be saved. Taught me a lesson though!!!

I suppose it depends what you’re doing in the toilet doesn’t it. Toilet cubicles have been known to be used for a variety of activities
