On 25th of October, (not quire sure about the time exactly) I attended the introduction workshop for the Warwick Skills Portfolio Award which was organised by the tutor Samena Rashid. After I finished the workshop and walked out of the door, the only word that was on my mind is WOW! Before the workshop, I never know there are so many other potentials to develop for everyone. For example, I have always been a terrible speaker as I cannot stop sweating and being nervous in front of people. But because of this introduction workshop, I realised that Warwick University has prepared everything we need to improve ourselves. And everyone is able to identify what to improve through various specific workshops apart from the introduction one that I have attended.
On that wonderful night, the most impressive thing that I have done is the learning styles questionaire. In the questionaire, there are forty questions after which I am able to tell what kind of learning style I am. It turns out that I am a theorist. From my past learning experience, I was really impressed by how accurate that questionaire is. Just as thequestionaire said, I always feel very confident with being methodical and finding out the relationships and structures of knowledge in deep levels. Beyond that, I also realise that I am much more efficient in studying after making and following a study plan. Most importantly, I got inspired that it is the best for me to do the reading and studying as well as get a paper aside me to summarise the abstrct knowledge and make a knowledge tree.
The tutor also said that workshop is just the beginning of my journey to the Warwick Skills Portfolio Award. She advised me to make a plan about what to do in the next month. After careful investigation about my weakness, I finall tick out five workshops from the list. In the personal & Professional development skills section, I would like to choose P2 (Becoming more assertive), P3 (Working in a team), P4 (Delivering effective presentations), and P6 (An introduction to emotional intelligence). In the academic skills section, the most appealing one to me is A3 (Introduction to Academic writing for Arts and Social Science students). However, if possible, the P9 (Career planning) is also very interesting for me to go to. So, after all these amazing workshops, I exprect myself to be a mroe well-rounded person both in emotion and academic.
