Lipsoc, or the Linguistic Improvement and Practice Society, exists for people to practise languages in a new way. We don’t offer lessons or homework to our members; instead, we provide conversation groups which are led by a native speaker. This is a much more ‘natural’ way of practising than sitting in a classroom staring at a blackboard.
For example, a typical French conversation group will have six or seven people wanting to learn the language and one or two native speakers of French leading the conversation. The group will then have a conversation which is normal in every way, except it’s in French! If the group wants, it can pick topics for conversation – current affairs, or something lighter – or it can play a game in its selected language.
Groups exist for French, German, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, and English. If you would like to lead a group in your native language, let us know by emailing us at email@example.com and we will see what we can do. We are currently looking for group leaders for academic year 2006-7! Why not give it a try?
We are a pretty cool society, so check us out!
